Waxing Lyrical about Macbeth
In Week 4, Adelaide based theatre company, Waxing Lyrical, brought a unique performance to Endeavour College; it was a humorous and memorable adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth which all Year 11 students are currently studying. The players, Craig, Stephanie and Jono, performed a hilarious abridged version of the play, tailor-made for high-school students and leaving ‘all the boring bits’ out.
The 45-minute performance followed the chaotic and accident-prone journey of three actors attempting to tell the Bard's dark and bloody story. They argue and bicker with one another until eventually the entire show falls apart. The show focuses on the very reason why Shakespeare wrote these plays in the first place: to entertain! In addition, the dialogue and acting unpacked the reasons we still read and study Shakespeare in schools. Though sometimes seemingly anarchic, and beneath the veil of a farce, their efforts highlight the play's major themes, characters, and events and its universal application to all of humanity.
With pathos in spades, and through the power of humour, this trio takes ‘The Bard’ down a notch, proving he's not as difficult and inaccessible as most people think he is.
Students agreed that the show illuminated the empathy, vulnerability, and humanity in the characters. Waxing Lyrical’s rendition of Macbeth was simply a fun, energetic and engaging performance that helped our Year 11 students understand and appreciate Shakespeare. Read some of their reviews below.
“A funny representation of Shakespeare’s iconic play” (Lene)
“Even though it is a tragedy it was portrayed in a way that made it less confronting but entertaining instead” (Ioni)
“It was easy to understand. I laughed a lot!” (Lila)
“We enjoyed this interesting take on Macbeth because it is such a serious story and Waxing Lyrical turned it into comedy. The actors were enthusiastic and diverse. It was hilarious” (Brayden and Jackson)

Ethics Olympiad
On Monday 9 August our middle years Ethics Olympiad team took part in a zoom training clinic. This clinic involved a full day of workshopping, led by an internationally recognized panel of experts. This was a fantastic day for the Year 9 team. They did a sterling job as they engaged with the content, asking well thought out questions and giving well-articulated responses.
Throughout the day the team had the opportunity to build on their critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. Everyone came away feeling as if they were better equipped to participate in the Olympiad event taking place in November.

Connected Schools Worship Service 2021
As a community, we place great value on the interactions between our Connected Schools. The Connected Schools Worship Service is another of those events that highlight these interactions as we engage in community.
Due to our consideration and implementation of Covid restrictions, the service looked very different this year. Under normal circumstances, we might have had to plan for around 800 attendants in total but had to settle on the attendance of all our Year 6 Connected Schools students and our own Year 7 cohort.
Students from all Connected Schools played a part in the service, with a real highlight being the drama and message presented by the Endeavour College Student Ministry Team, led by Jemma Weiss. It was engaging and entertaining, seamless in its execution and a highlight for out Connected Schools students. It certainly brought back fond memories for some of our Year 7 students. We are so appreciative of the extra effort from each of the Year 6 student groups and their teachers from Golden Grove Lutheran School, Good Shepherd Lutheran School and St Paul Lutheran School. The day finished off well with a lovely recess for all students involved.
