Language & Culture Program

Kii, Deadly TPS community, biladu-njan wat/how are you all? And in the words of my Yawuru language...Ngaji gurrjin/Hello everyone! I hope you are all well and safe!

As we transition from the seasons of ‘Tangbilk Ningak - Morning Frost and Bark Harvest’ and into ‘Winthoonth Wutanbaj Djumbuna - Regeneration and Women’s Business’, I hope that students are able to share what they have learned about these seasons with their families. Perhaps you are able to notice some of the changes in the environment when out and about on your daily walks, or can reflect on how Wurundjeri people might have been living their lives in the spaces we now inhabit.

One thing that I really appreciate during this time is the blooming of the many varied types of wattle. The bright yellow flowers are like a ray of sunshine, particularly on those days that are cold and overcast! The wattle that I have growing in my front yard is just beginning to bloom and I love seeing its splash of colour through the windows.

I would like to acknowledge the difficulties students and their families may be experiencing with online learning. I would also like to express my appreciation for those students who have managed to complete the tasks which I set each week. Here are some samples of student work this term:

Keep on being the ‘Burndap-dhak/Deadly’ students and families that you all are!
