Year 1/2–Celebrating Learning

We have been focused on publishing their information reports. Students have explored the editing, revising and publishing stages of the Writer’s Workshop Process. Information topics have been linked to our Science Integrated focus. Many students researched animals or plants and some students researched a country they saw represented at the Olympics. Here are some students writing in various stages of the Writer’s Workshop Process.

Throughout our Russian Fairy Tales Main Lesson, students have been learning how to use their visualisation skills to represent parts of the story. They have also been learning to retell which they have been doing with the tale ‘Firebird’. Class one kids practised their use of enunciation, pace and volume to retell the story in an engaging way. Here are some images from the amazing videos and stop motions and beautiful artwork from this story so far.

During our Main Lesson, “Saintly Lives”, we focused on writing, illustrating and retelling. Students listened to stories about the traditional Christian saints, as well the modern day saints through the mainstream reading lessons (Greta Thunberg, Jane Goodall, Martin Luther King Jr.). We are finishing off Term 3 with a “Passion Project”, where students are guided through a self-directed inquiry to explore and celebrate their individual interests and wonderings!
Here are some of the Illuminated letters we created as part of our “Saintly Lives” Main Lesson.
