VICE PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

What a week to be at East!

When we logged in for remote learning on Monday morning, no one could have imagined what we would be able to fit into what has been an absolutely jam-packed week for Echuca East. Here is just a snapshot of what has been going on.

WebEx Lessons

While no one wants to be in remote learning, I am amazed by the work our teachers have been doing to make the transition in and out of these periods as easy as possible for our families. Monday marked the first day that all levels had WebEx classes available for our students with over 75% of our school logging in. These sessions were used not only to model what was expected for the day but also as a chance for students to see and interact with their peers.

Doing it for Donuts’

There is no doubt that like all Victorian kids this year, our Easties have been doing it tough. Being thrown in and out of remote learning takes a toll on our students so this week, to help engage and motivate out students in these periods, Miss Burke introduced ‘Doing in for Donuts’. All students that logged in to their WebEx sessions and completed their work for the day were put in a class draw to win a loaded Donut from the Hungry Goat. It proved to be quite a hit and will continue to be a feature during the weeks ahead at school.

Campaspe Netball Tournament

On Friday I was lucky enough to head down with the Grade 5/6 students to take part in the Campaspe Primary School Netball Tournament. Opportunities for our students to compete in tournaments like this have been few and far between this year so it was great to see this event finally get off the ground. Many of our students had never played netball before but gave it their all on the day. While there were a few nerves in the early games, teams improved with every game they played. Mr Holmfield’s fingerprint was evident on each team, as they represented our school in true Echuca East spirit.

100 Days of School

After several attempts our preps finally reached their 100 days of school on Friday. Unfortunately, their teachers couldn’t make it, but we were lucky enough to get Ethel, Thelma, Dot and Pamela in to take care of proceedings for the day. Students dressed up as 100-year-olds, brought in collections of 100, wrote about what they would be doing when they are 100 and lots and lots of dancing.  A big thank you to our teacher’s for making this important day so special for our preps and to our wonderful families for making such an effort with the dress ups. Be sure to get on Facebook to see more about this great day!
