Library News
We are enjoying meeting our new students and please keep in mind, that first and foremost, the library is a haven and an exciting place of discovery.
The library staff would like to welcome new students, in particular Year 7, as well as returning students to our library for 2022.
Our library is accessible to all students throughout the school day. We are open before school from 8:15am, at recess and lunchtimes as well as afterschool to 4:30pm Monday through to Thursday. In addition, students are reminded that they are welcome to attend Homework Club which runs in the library after school on Wednesday afternoons.
An important part of our library vision is to foster an ongoing love of reading and we offer many services to support this aim. As part of the library program, we provide a fun and successful Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge program every year. All Year 7 and 8 students participate in the VPRC while older students are encouraged to speak with a library staff member if they would like to participate in the Challenge. Students who read regularly and successfully complete the Challenge receive, not just the long-term benefits to educational outcomes, but also an invitation to attend a special ceremonial lunch to reward students who have successfully completed their VPRC.
Our library fiction collection is an extensive collection of popular and interesting novels that caters and appeals to all abilities. We regularly purchase new and up-to-date books, and all our staff are available to recommend books for all reading abilities.
Book Club is a popular lunchtime activity which will be run during Terms 2 and 3. If your student is a keen reader, they may enjoy being part of this club and meet other like-minded students. For more information, please see a library staff member.
If your student finds themselves unexpectedly at home without a book to read, they can access Wheeler’s eBooks and audiobooks via the Infiniti library management system https://tlsc.concordinfiniti.com/login or through the star icon on Compass.
In addition, we also have a good collection of games and puzzles for students to enjoy during recess and lunch. We regularly run interactive Kahoot.it games at lunchtime and began the year with a popular Valentines’ Day themed competition. Our next interactive game will be in March to celebrate International Women’s Day. The library will be hosting a puzzle challenge on Monday 28th February at lunchtime. Students are encouraged to create a team or join one on the day.
