To help prepare our VCE students and their families for the challenges ahead,  BSC recently hosted two Success Integrated presentations - one directed at students and run through our COGS session, the other directed at parents who were invited to an out of school hours seminar.

Both presentations were engaging, energetic and informative and many (including staff) commented on the value of the experience.

Student Seminar  - VCE Study Skills for Success

The goal of this seminar was to arm senior school students with the tools needed to maximise their academic results this year. It was really engaging, delivering detail on a wide range of areas - study tips, motivational strategies and wellbeing factors.

Combined with a live DJ playing the latest hits it could have been called ‘edu-tainment’ - but underlying the 'show' was some very sound advice.  We know that if our students take on board the tips and tricks offered,  they will get the best out of the year ahead.

Parent seminar - Parenting Strategies for Teenage Success

Specifically developed to help parents and carers to support their child's education,  this session included tips on motivation, communication and understanding and maintaining a close positive relationship with their child.

I really enjoyed this presentation and agree with its messages.  Having a 'CAN do' attitude is so important, and the many tips they offered such as 'chunking' tasks (breaking projects into manageable chunks), time management and setting priorities and goals can make all the difference to how well a student performs.  If our students employ these strategies,  they will do better overall and have a less stressful time in VCE.

We are pleased to see so many of our Year 12 students have begun the year with an obvious sense of commitment to achieving the best results possible.

Using every opportunity to receive support and advice from staff, the college's English Help and Maths Help Co-curricular classes are very well attended and appreciated by students.

Following the Success Integrated seminar,  many VCE students then elected to remain at school to participate in the Cloudstreet seminar. A panel of VCE English teachers and other staff presented on different aspects of the text - and each presentation was followed by a Q & A session for students. It was great to see students asking insightful questions as well as sharing thought provoking comments.

And our Year 12 students can also be congratulated on setting such a good example to younger cohorts with their uniform choices. Being very well organised at the end of 2016, Kyle Keuris (School Captain) and his team offered a choice of two Year 12 tops that the cohort (VCAL and VCE) could order.  These tops work very well with the BSC standard uniform, are great quality and look very smart. Many students took the opportunity to purchase items and the result is that they all look very stylish - and are great ambassadors for the college!
