Year 7 students enjoyed a busy and productive day recently - when the entire cohort collaborated to perform We Go Together en masse at the Year 7 Performing Arts Day.

This project is aimed at ensuring that all students have a go at an aspect of the performing arts - regardless of their experience or skill level - while exercising their teamwork skills.  It is a great chance for students to try something new in a supportive and fun atmosphere. As with anything, some find it is not for them (which is fine!). On the other hand,  there are others who may discover a passion and talent that they never knew they had. Either way, the students have  a great opportunity to consider the Performing Arts pathway - and learn skills around the BSC Values of teamwork, persistence, achievement and respect along the way.

We Go Together is one of the songs from our upcoming school production of Grease. Some students learned to sing the song, some learned the choreography to the song, others played musical instruments including brass, strings and percussion. The cohort spent time in groups during the day learning their parts and then came together to perform to an enthusiastic audience of staff and parents.

I've never seen so many people learn an entire song so quickly. Some just learned to use their instrument on the same day!

It was fun and helped me build my confidence a little bit because I wasn't alone.

I enjoyed playing instruments in a group and learning a new song. I would love to do this again!

I have never performed singing before and it was really fun. It was good that everyone had a part to play - if they didn't like singing they could do something else, like dance, piano or  guitar.

I loved it because it gave everyone a chance and it helped with my confidence.

I liked watching everyone perform - the dancers and the musicians - and I was really happy to sing!

I tried an instrument I have never played before and it inspired me to maybe do it again.

I liked how we worked together. I would like to do this activity again - but with more time to learn our music!

Performing Arts does not really interest me, but it was a fun activity.  I chose to sing with the group, but I don't think I will go on with performing arts.

I think it's absolutely amazing that some of the students have picked up and instrument for the day and been able to produce a performance like that at the end. Its a credit to the year 7's just how keen and interested they are this year and to our instrumental staff for teaching them in that period of time.
