SIS Athletics Carnival
On Monday 26 August, St James competed in the SIS Division B Athletics Competition at Lakeside Stadium.
We started the day with a few field events across all age groups. Ishmael in Year 9 finished in first place in the shot put, with a massive throw of 12.50 metres, whilst Ty in Year 10 finished second in the long jump.
We then moved on to the track events. In the 1500 metres, we had a few second and third placings throughout the age groups. The U16 Discus was up next and Jonathan Ravipati, who had been practising all year, threw 41.55 meters on his first throw which took out first place. Some other events we came first in were the U14 triple jump with Josh Stuart and with an amazing run by Maceo Jones in the 400 metre dash. We then moved into to the 100m Sprints, featuring the fastest racers of the day. Alfie finished 2nd in the U14a race and Liam came 3rd in the B race. We also had Kosta and Matt in the 100 metre U16 race, both pulling off first place. After these races we had Xavier Poon in U14 and Matt Harms in U16, both finishing 2nd in their 800 metres races.
To finish the day, we had our favorite races which were the relays. We did well in them, but the U16 Race was a stand out, with a time of 47.71, 1 second off the record.
We were extremely happy with the effort that was brought to this carnival and we know everyone did their best for the school. St James ended up just taking away the U16 age group shield but all the age groups did extremely well even with some of the younger students taking on year 12 students.
