Semester Reports Explanation Sheet for Years 7 to 10

1. YEAR 7 – 10 ASSESSMENT TASKS
Assessment Tasks may be all or part of a Learning Outcome. Not all of the course work is assessed or graded. All Assessment Tasks are graded according to Criterion based Assessment Sheets that are presented and discussed with students when the Assessment Task is delivered.
At Greensborough College Assessment Tasks are graded using on the following scale;
Outstanding – the student has achieved a mark between the ranges of 90-100 percent. The work addresses all the criteria demonstrating both an excellent understanding of the knowledge, and application of the skills required and often goes beyond the expected level.
Excellent – the student has achieved a mark between the ranges of 80-89 percent. The work addresses all the criteria demonstrating excellent understanding of the knowledge, and application of the skills required.
Very Good – a sound understanding and application of the knowledge and skills required. The student has achieved a grade between 70-79 percent. The work addresses most of the criteria.
Good – the student has achieved a grade between 60-69 percent. The work addresses some of the criteria, and demonstrates fair understanding of the knowledge, and fair application of the skills required.
Satisfactory/Competent – the student has achieved a grade between 50-59 percent. The work addresses some of the criteria, and demonstrates basic understanding of the knowledge, and basic application of the skills required.
Needs Improvement – the student has achieved a grade less than 50 percent. The work has failed to address most of the criteria. The student has not demonstrated a basic understanding of the knowledge and of the skills required.
Ungraded – the student has achieved a grade less than 50 percent. The work has failed to address all of the criteria. The student has not demonstrated a basic understanding of the knowledge and of the skills required.
Not Assessed – the student was unable to submit the task due to extended illness or approved absence from school OR the student submitted the task for assessment after the due date.
2. YEAR 7 – 10 VICTORIAN CURRICULUM JUDGEMENTS
A graph showing your child’s progress will be provided for each subject. The Victorian Curriculum assessment grades are A, B, C, D and E.
Grade A indicates that the student is meeting standards at least 12 months ahead of the expected level.
Grade B indicates that the student is meeting standards 6 months ahead of the expected level.
Grade C indicates that they are working at the expected level.
Grade D indicates that the student is meeting standards below the expected level.
Grade E indicates that the student is meeting standards well below the expected level.
3. YEAR 7 – 10 AUSVELS LEVELS – ITALIAN
The study of Italian offers 2 Pathways. Students at Greensborough College undertake the 7 -10 sequence which is for students who begin learning the language in Year 7.
4. WORK HABITS
Students are assessed: Excellent, Very Good, Satisfactory and Unsatisfactory.
Effort: This refers to the student’s work ethic and his / her ability to work independently or stay on task in group work. It also refers to the student’s attitude towards studies. At one end of the scale, a student would be self-driven and directed. At the other end of the scale, a student would be disengaged, continually reliant on teacher direction and motivation in order to complete set tasks.
Class Behaviour: This refers to a student’s emotional, social and interpersonal skills and ability to work with teachers and other students in a respectful and courteous way.
Organisation: This refers to the student’s time management and organisational skills, attendance and punctuality to class, use of the Student Planner, completion and submission of classwork and assessment tasks on time.
Homework: This refers to the completion of set tasks in line with the College Homework Policy.
5. SATISFACTORY COMPLETION: of a Unit of study is based on the assessment of Work Habits.
6. COMMENTS
Descriptive comments support the graded assessments. Teacher comments provide a critical reflection of the student’s academic performance and progress in relation to Learning Outcomes.
