Magis report

John XIII College had and excellent night in the WA Debating League round 4 at Christ Church Grammar School on Tuesday,  winning all debates, our only loss being in the juniors where our two teams were against each other in a top quality impromptu debate. Several teams have a chance of winning their division depending on the results of round 5 on 15 June, the fixtures and instructions for which are attached below. Full prep sessions are scheduled next – students in Monday preparation teams please check for changes.  Novice team one has a bye, but all other teams compete. The final make-up round for postponed debates is on 29 June in the final week of term.  Congratulations to all debaters and warmest thanks to parents, staff and coaches for their terrific support.

Our three Creative Edge teams will have a special seminar-workshop from WA Director Kathy Boyatzis in the Osborne room at 7:15am on Thursday 17 June.  Forms have been distributed and need to be returned by Friday 11 June.  The three Magis Creative Edge teams are from Years 7, 8 and 9 and will be competing in the Language-Literature Challenge at Curtin University next term on Saturday 28 August.

So far there are seven candidates competing in the John XXIII Final of  the International Famelab Competition. Our final will be in the GBLT on Wednesday, 30 June at 7:30am. The winner will go straight through to the WA Final at the Heath Ledger Theatre in week 5 next term.  Good luck to all contestants. Two more places are available in the John XXIII Final.

Round 4  of the House Academic Challenge series, STEM,  begins this coming week with the Years 9/10 section on Thursday and Years 7/8 on Friday and Years 11/12 the following week.  525 students have so far competed, many more than once, and Koolyangarra, St Louis and Loreto lead the house championship at present.
