Founders’ Day Mass

The first Founders’ Day was celebrated at Mazenod College in August 1967 when a special mass and ceremony was held at St Joseph’s Church, Springvale. The celebrant of the mass was Fr. William Cagney (Australian Oblate Provincial) while Fr. Don Aloysius, an Oblate from Sri Lanka who was visiting Australia, preached the sermon.

Initially known as “Mazenod Day”, the Founders’ Day Mass is an annual college event that celebrates the Founder of the religious order known as The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Eugene De Mazenod was born on 1st August 1782 in Aix-en-Provence, France and established the Oblates in 1816. He was canonized in 1995.
