Principal's Post

Dear Parents,

On Thursday evening we held our Visible Wellbeing Parents Information Evening. Professor Lea Waters addressed the parent group on Mental Health issues and provided harrowing statistics to confirm the seriousness of this current situation. It is quite opportune for us to be in partnership with the Visible Wellbeing Programme as we navigate the COVID 19 pandemic and its implications. Schools need a scientific approach and having a world-renowned specialist in the area of positive psychology speak to our Parent Community was extraordinary. The number of parents in attendance was smaller than expected but the evening was invaluable nonetheless as they received critical evidence that showed strategies that improved academic performance by 11%. Her data, practices and evidence-based teachings, form our wellbeing curriculum and the more staff, parents and teachers learn the approach, the more beneficial it is to our performances and relationships, at school, at home and in the workplace. I am sure all involved now have a much deeper appreciation for the Visible Wellbeing approach that is being implemented at the College.

It is fantastic news to know that Nishan Velupillay has made his debut with Melbourne Victory F.C. on May 19, 2021. Nishan was in the class of 2019. Congratulations Nishan!

Our Year 12 Drama Students performed their group assessment on Wednesday and Thursday Evenings this week. This task requires dedicated practice and satisfies a major component of the year’s assessment.

The ACC Art and Technology Exhibition was launched on Wednesday Evening at Federation Square in the city. The exhibition utilises two spaces, the Atrium and the Edge. Over 220 pieces of student work from Years 7 – 12 are featured. All of the 12 ACC schools are represented. During the launch, Curtis Reeder presented an inspirational account of his development in film and video. The Mazenod musicians featured prominently at this major event. Our Flute Ensemble and our Chamber Strings entertained the audience and soloists Samuel Chen (piano) and Brandon Paul (violin). The Art and Technology areas that are included in the Exhibition include:

VCD

Photography

Ceramics/Sculpture

Multimedia Digital Art

Systems Engineering

Product Design & Technology – wood, metal, plastics & textiles.

If you get the opportunity to view the exhibition it is open from May 20, 2021 to May 26, 2021 from 10am to 5pm at the Edge and Atrium at Federation Square.

Finally, on Friday, we held our Founders' Day Mass to celebrate and acknowledge the work of St Eugene de Mazenod and his wonderful legacy of witness and service. During the Mass, we also acknowledged the Anniversary of 200 years of Catholic Education. We continue to pray for our families and their loved ones who are battling COVID 19, under the most difficult circumstances worldwide.

Yours sincerely,
