Relationships

Thank you Kiwanis Moorabbin!

On Monday the 17th of May I had the privilege of being invited to Kiwanis, Moorabbin Club, to their monthly meeting.

Kiwanis is a global organisation of member volunteers working to improve the world, one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis members are community service minded men and women, united in their commitment to and their compassion for the wellbeing of others.

Ian Howison and Bryan Williams, along with the other members are interested in the camping experiences we offer our students. I gave a presentation on just what we do here at Yarrabah: offering each student a camping experience ranging from day trips to overnight stays to 5 day adventures and the many benefits associated with the program.

Our current destinations include the Mornington Peninsula, Blackwood Forest, Pt Leo, Lake Mountain, Anglesea, Bright and Gold Coast.

Kiwanis most generously donated a cheque for $2000, to go towards supporting our students and camping programs here at Yarrabah.

We would like to thank Kiwanis for their donation and we look forward to sharing our experiences with them over the coming months.

If anyone would like some more information about Kiwanis please see reception.

Thank you

Brendan

Seeking volunteers to assemble our Plum Play - Discovery Nature Hideaway

The instructions say that it takes 2 people 3 hours. We are also seeking volunteers who are happy to spend one hour on the project. All help is greatly appreciated and will enable us to start using the hideaway in our Early Education Program outdoor play space.

It would be great if you could bring tools with you as well. Please call 9580 0384 and ask to speak to Anna, Maike or Jess T if you are able to assist.

Many thanks,

The Yarrabah OTs

Breakfast Club at Yarrabah School

Yarrabah School is taking part in the Foodbank School Breakfast Clubs program, a Victorian Government initiative delivered in partnership with Foodbank Victoria providing students access to breakfast items, lunch and snack items, and school holiday supplies. Foods we receive through Foodbank include milk, wheat biscuits, wholegrain Cheerios, baked beans, fruit, spreads and more. The School Breakfast Club aims to provide a warm and welcoming space for students when they arrive at school, enabling them to build positive social connections over a healthy breakfast.

Thank you to the teams at Chelsea Bakers Delight and Mordialloc Bakers Delight for continuing to supply bread for the breakfast program.  Research shows that a child's ability to concentrate in class, self-regulate and learn is negatively impacted if they are hungry. For more information about the School Breakfast Clubs Program visit  https://www.foodbank.org.au/VIC/school-breakfast-clubs-in-action/?state=vic

Through this program we also receive lunch and snack food items. If you have forgotten your child’s lunch or you are finding the preparation of lunches challenging at this time, contact the school and we will arrange lunch for your child from our Foodbank supplies.

We are currently seeking volunteers able to commit 30-40 minutes one day per week or fortnight, starting next term. Please read the role description attached for further information and contact me with any questions or to nominate yourself as a volunteer.

Warm Regards,

Kim Taylor
