WPSC Wellbeing Team
This term wellbeing has been continuing with our pro-active programs aiming to support the student’s development and wellbeing. This term we were fortunate to have the amazing team from Reach come out to our school and engage the students in meaningful conversations and education. Themes covered by Reach are based on issues facing our young people as they navigate their way from childhood towards becoming young adults. For the older students we had Locker Room, Mirror and Spotlight, whilst our younger students considered themes of Connection, Respect and Peer Dynamics. These programs engaged students Yr7 through to Yr11 and were a fantastic addition to the other programs offered by the school.
Introducing the adorable and beloved Ned and his proud owner Helen.
A first-generation Cavoodle; Ned is a delightful bundle of love with a gentle and affectionate nature that captures the hearts of everyone he meets. He's a master snuggler and can't resist a good belly scratch, always bringing joy with his warm and cuddly presence. Ned is the leader of our Canine Comprehension Program which teaches the
students Communication on the inside and out, Friendship and responsibility, Embrace the Change, Grief and loss and Flexible thinking. Thank you Ned and Helen for running such an innovative program.
This term the school will be hosting
‘Smashed’ which is a program tackling underage drinking with positive thinking for Years 8, 9 and 10. The program highlights how when the world inevitably throws out choices - be ready to make an informed one.
Our DSM, Jack Waller (Defence School Mentor) also offers extra wellbeing support for students of our ADF families who attend the school. This term there has been special hot chip and pizza slice lunches for ADF students to check in with each other and Jack.
This year we are continuing our focus as a school on B.A.S.E an acronym to help students consider their own self-care and how making simple adjustments to their routine can improve their mental health.
Alongside our whole school BASE focus, we also have a number of health and wellbeing activities/incursions across each week this term. All programs listed are via Wellbeing Team intake. If you would like your child considered for one of the programs below please get in contact with your child's Home Group teacher!

One main priority of the team is to identify potential emerging mental health issues, and this remains the core of our wellbeing model as we continue to support the social and emotional wellbeing of all our young people. Our team offers short term support within school for approximately 3-4 sessions if required. Young people who present with more complex concerns are referred to external clinical services and this continues to be a successful model of care within out school.
This term some of the team visited Orange Door which is a walk-in service available locally in Hastings for those requiring more complex levels of support. They are located at 184, Salmon Street, Hastings and are available for Crisis support as well as offering guidance and supports to parents and families.
We also partner with Hastings Community Support, and I would like to acknowledge the amazing work done by Laura and Georgia and all the community health providers located in the building directly next to the school. We continue to work collaboratively and supportively with all local services so that we can ensure our students and families have adequate supports when needed.
