Immigration

The 5/6 students have been delving into the topic of immigration for their Discovery unit this term. We have learnt about how and why people have migrated to Australia now and in the past. We have looked at interviews with migrants and have written profiles on them and created our own advertisements from 1950 enticing people to come to Australia. This week, students have chosen a topic for their discovery project that they will work on over the next few weeks before our Discovery Open Afternoon in Week 9.

We're busy in 5/6!

The end of Term 3 is going to be very busy in the 5/6 area. Week 9 in particular is going to be very busy as we have 2 incursions and an excursion all in one week! Here are some details:

Talk Money Incursion

Talk Money with Ecstra Foundation is coming to our school! Grade 5/6 students will be participating in two workshops on Monday 21st of August and Monday 4th September.

Talk Money is a free financial education program that teaches young people money lessons for life, helps students be confident when talking about money and to make informed financial decisions.

Delivered by trained facilitators, the workshops are aligned to the Australian curriculum and the National Consumer and Financial Literacy Framework.

We are looking forward to the workshops and, if you would like to know more, check out their website at www.talkmoney.org.au

Swinburne University Electric Circuits Incursion

Each student will attend a 55 minute lesson and presentation by a visiting scientist  from Swinburne University. This fun-filled session bridges simple circuits to the world of complex electronics and robotics. Students learn about electricity and electrical conductivity in the context  of atomic structure, and assemble simple circuits with motors, LEDs and solar panels. At the end of the session, students apply newly acquired skills to construct machines that jiggle and dance!
