SPOTLIGHT:

Community: Year 1/2

Focus: Use digital systems to present data creatively.

This term, I have been lucky enough to work with some students in the Year 1/2 Community. In our small group for Literacy, we have been looking at sequencing, as this is nicely linked to their focus on Fractured Fairy Tales, while also making use of directional language. In our immersion session, the students were thoroughly engaged. Their task was to move our characters Big Bob and Bumble Dog around the grid to get to their final destination, the “Fantastic Playground.” It was wonderful to see the students using sequencing language such as “First, then, next, after that,” to instruct their character around the board. The students even came up with some fantastic success criteria!

WALT: use steps cards to move around the grid

Success Criteria:

I know I have been successful when I have...

  • Used clear directions
  • Added in STOP and GO cards
  • double checked my character is going in the right direction

As we move through the term and our subsequent sessions, the students will work towards using the Beebots to tell fairy tale stories and also to map out their own fractured fairy tales. It’s amazing how Digital Technology can be integrated into all areas of our learning and how in this day and age students are so keen to show off their tech-savvy side! I can’t wait to run our next session with the students.
