Promoting Resilience for our Students
Wellbeing was pleased to bring Eric Ageyman back to Greensborough College on the 14th of July. Eric is a gifted storyteller, and he regaled our year 9’s about his life and experiences of growing up.
Eric was born in Ghana, Africa and migrated to New Zealand with his father and siblings when he was 5 years old. He then migrated to Australia in year 7. Eric’s story is one of how his experiences of racism and feeling excluded drove him to join a gang in year 8. Eric told of the multiple challenges that he overcame, from being unable to speak English to now having published 4 books.
Ultimately Eric’s story is one of empowerment, reflecting on one’s own behaviour, respecting your parents and carers and respecting the power of words. Eric believes that words can cause a lot of harm, but they also have great power to HEAL.
Our students demonstrated respectful behaviour and good listening skills and asked questions. Jasper Howell was fortunate to be the first student to answer a question and received a free book from Eric. We hope that Eric’s chat will inspire our students during the rest of the term to reflect, be kind to one another and seek professional help when required.
