Principal's Report

Welcome back to another term.  Term 3 is the term when the weather gets better, and we finish off with the footy parade which I always look forward to!

Oval

After 5 years.  5 looooonnnnnggggggg years.  It is completed.  Many fundraising activities have contributed to this space over this time period, and I can’t thank you all enough!

We will keep the fence up for at least another month while the turf is attaching.  We need plenty of sunshine to assist with this! After Week 4 we will take the landscaper’s lead on when the best time to get back onto it is (without killing it), but definitely before the term has finished!

CJP Landscaping have been outstanding to work with and have given us so much more than what we could have ever expected!

The Farm

Our beautiful garden at the front is complete. With a water feature, cobblestones, rocks and plants it really makes the farm space look so much more open!

The building itself has been signed off and we can now start to move back in.  We have purchased new toys and sensory materials to play with during recess and lunch. The carpets have been washed and it looks almost brand new again.

Classes have been down there this week to go through the rules and expectations when visiting the farm at recess or lunch times.

The Cavill Centre

Have you noticed it is not the same colour anymore? The Cavill Centre has had a much-needed paint and now matches our newer buildings.  It is Ready to teach children music and performing arts for many more years to come.

Upcoming changes to NAPLAN reporting

Ahead of NAPLAN results for students being released from Monday 17 July 2023, I’m writing to inform you of some changes to this year’s reporting. These are changes being introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:

These are:

· exceeding

· strong

· developing

· needs additional support

This change will give schools, parents and carers clearer information that details student achievement against new proficiency levels.

Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be in order to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child.

Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them – these results are about making sure every student gets the support they need so they can continue to get the best from their learning.

When we provide you with your results, you will also receive information about what the new proficiency levels mean.

Allied Health (NDIS workers)

As of the beginning of 2024, Allied Health staff (NDIS workers) will no longer be able to utilize LPS rooms for consultations with students.  We have been overly generous with allowing these workers to utilize our office spaces (free of charge) over the years.

We are now at a stage where we have so many Allied Health staff requesting to come onsite that we do not have enough spaces to run our own programs which must take priority.

Allied Health staff may come onsite to do classroom observations/classroom support and attend meetings with support groups but will not be able to utilize LPS spaces for consultations.

Have a great fortnight,

Mark Moorhouse
