Year 3 to Year 6

Junior School Update

A Whirlwind of Activity! Time has truly raced by in the past couple of weeks!

The Year 6 students were invited to attend the St Francis Xavier Parish Mass yesterday (Tuesday 15 August), to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The significance of this day resonates not just with Catholics, but with many Christians. It’s a cherished feast day that calls to mind the spiritual and earthly departure of Jesus Christ's mother. The Mass was a heartwarming experience, allowing our students to step into the serene embrace of the church.

But hold on, Year 4 students are also taking the spotlight this week! They had a rehearsal for their Sacramental First Holy Communion which takes place this Sunday at 9:30am. You could feel their excitement in the air, as they eagerly anticipate this special day. Oh, and let's not forget the icing on the cake – quite literally! A celebratory cake awaits all Year 4 students next week, adding an extra dash of sweetness to their days.

In the dynamic world of Year 3, we've delved into the mystique of the Eucharist, unravelling the transformation of bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus during Mass. To capture this sacred journey, students made lovely stained-glass windows that depict the essence of the Eucharist's sanctity. And speaking of saints, students recently rejoiced in celebrating Australia's first saint, Mary MacKillop. Artistic tributes to Mary graced the MacKillop Feast Day liturgy and now adorn our learning spaces, reminding us of the power of faith and devotion.

As for Year 5, they've been diving deep into the world of decimals and fractions in Math class, proving that numbers can indeed be as exciting as the world outside. But it's not just about numbers; these young minds have also been exploring the profound responsibility of reading the Word of God. They've learned that the Word should be proclaimed audibly, reverently, and with deep understanding. These burgeoning individuals might even find themselves as torchbearers of this sacred tradition when they're old enough to do so with unwavering faith.

So, here's to Junior School brimming with vibrant activity, from sacred celebrations to mathematical marvels, and the timeless wisdom of the ages. I will be saying goodbye to our students for the remainder of Term Three as I will be on Long Service Leave until Term Four. In the meantime, Mrs Tierney-Dusenberg will step into my role.
