From the Principal's Desk

Principal News:

Welcome to Week 3!

Our school and the Department of Education recognises that family breakdowns take place.  Unless there is formal notice otherwise, it is assumed that both parents have shared and equal parental responsibility for their children and both parents have been involved in decisions regarding their children’s education.  This also means the school recognises that each parent has equal duties, obligations, responsibilities and opportunities relating to matters involving the school.

If changes occur in your family relationship which might impact on the relationship between the school and your family, you should advise the school immediately.  This includes providing copies of any relevant court orders.

Permission to Publish:

Please return these notes ASAP so that we can continue to publish our photos of students.

ASC Dancers:

Last Thursday as part of NAIDOC Week dancers from Armidale Secondary College performed for our students.  We all thoroughly enjoyed the performance and thank them all for coming to our school.

An Evening with ACOS:  Thursday 10th August at 6pm.

As ‘An Evening with ACOS’ draws closer, we wanted to touch base, and give you some further information for the night.  All Stage 2 and 3 students are participating in our MGPS performance.  This is an amazing opportunity for our students to participate in a spectacular showcase of Creative Arts in Armidale Public Schools.

 Important Information

  • Date: Thursday, 10th August.
  • Time: The show will commence at 6:00pm and should conclude around 8:00pm.
  • Location: Armidale Secondary College MPC, Butler St, Armidale.
  • Tickets: Tickets can be bought online at https://livemusic.net.au/event/18647394-a/a-night-with-acos or by following the QR code in the GULGOS. The cost of admission is $15. NO tickets are available at the door. You must bring a copy of your tickets to enter.

How will students get to and from the performance?

Students will be transported via bus from MGPS to ASC on the night.  Students need to arrive back at school by 4:30pm, to be marked off and on the bus by 5:00pm and will be fully supervised at school and on the bus.

Students are to be collected by parents/carers from ASC at the conclusion of the performance (around 8.00pm).  MGPS will have a designated area at ASC for this purpose that will be communicated via COMPASS.

All students performing at ACOS are expected to stay until the finale at the end of the evening.  All performers will be part of the finale, so all performers need to stay.  At the end of the finale, performers will be taken back to their area to collect their belongings and then will be escorted to the  “Courtyard” area at ASC.  Teachers from MGPS will wait with the students in this area with the school banner so that we are easy to locate.  This is the only area that parents/carers can collect their child from.  Please do not take your child from the hall or go to classrooms.  As you can appreciate this is a large school with many people attending the performance and we need to maintain the safety of the children in our care.  Parents will then need to collect their children at about 8pm from the “Courtyard” near the front gates at Armidale Secondary College.  Please look for our MGPS school banner.

Please be aware that if you are going to watch the performance or picking up your child at the end of the performance you may have to park several blocks away from ASC.  Please allow time to find a park and to walk to the MPC for the performance and for pick up afterwards.  Carpooling with another family may be an option.

PAX Word of the Fortnight: Trust

  • PAX leaders are honest. At MGPS we are honest, we tell the truth and we can be trusted. We show trust by:
  • Doing what we say we are going to do.
  • Following the rules of a game or sport.
  • Being there for our friends.
  • Returning other people's property and not taking anything without asking.
  • What are some opportunities you have every day to tell the truth and to be honest?

Every Day Matters:

Every Day Matters for your child’s learning.  Attending school every day allows your child to get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.

This includes attending school onrainy days, for a full day, Fridays, birthdays etc.  Regular school attendance can help expand your child’s learning and create positive relationships with their peers.

If you require support in getting your child ready and motivated for school, please reach out to us.

Read more about the benefits of regular attendance on the department website.

Let's do this together.

Student Success:

Big congratulations to Alice Pearson  who won the primary art section in the UNESAP Let's Hang It! 2023.  Alice and her parents, along with Mrs Townsend, attended NERAM last Friday night for the exhibition opening and prize giving ceremony.  What a fabulous effort.

PSSA Athletics:

Congratulations to our students who competed at the PSSA Athletics carnival. All competitors showed great sportsmanship and tried their very best. We have 3 relay teams heading to Northwest along with many individual competitors.

Thank you to the P&C for catering for the carnival which was a huge job, raising funds for our school. Thanks as well to the ASC students who volunteered their time to help during the day.

100 days of Kindergarten:

Last Friday Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of being amazing students at Martin's Gully. Everyone looked fantastic dressed up. Thanks to Miss Barraclough and Miss See (Grandma and Grandpa) for organising such a great day.
