It is hard to believe that we are already at the half way point of term 3. Planning and rehearsal for production is well underway, and our students have enjoyed many other extra curricula events including Athletics day, Science Talent search and Taiko drumming. Later this term our Year 3 students will also enjoy a camping experience.

NAPLAN

This year we have seen a change in the reporting of NAPLAN results to the school and parents. With student achievement being reported as proficiency standards for the first time.

We were very pleased with the student NAPLAN results for 2023, with many of our students achieving in the proficiency areas of Strong and Exceeding. I have included below a summary of HEPS results in comparison with our Network schools.

Student achievement in NAPLAN is reported using proficiency standards for each assessment area at each year level. The standards are set at a challenging but reasonable expectation of what students know and can do at the time of testing. There are 4 proficiency levels:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

The proficiency level descriptions below describe some of the skills and understandings students can generally demonstrate at the time of testing. The aim of the descriptions is not to describe each individual student, but to provide a fair summary of typical skills and understandings for a student at the level. ACARA 2023.

Gym

Over the next couple of months we have improvement works scheduled for our Gym. This will include repainting, installation of large ceiling fans, a new kitchenette and replacement of carpet in the foyer area. We look foward to seeing the work begin and know both our staff and students will benefit from the work.

Capital Funding Project

We are also excited to be working through our Capital Funding project. At this stage we have had an initial meeting with the VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority) and we look forward to the appointment of architects within the next couple of months.

I look forward to keeping the school community informed on our exciting project.
