In the Art / Craft Room

ART

A big welcome to all our families, especially to our new Foundation community. For families that don’t know me, my name is Antoinette Vaiano. I have been teaching art at TPS for a long time now. I teach art and Steiner craft.

We started the term reviewing our Deadly Values by creating collaborative deadly art works. We read a Dreamtime story of How the Birds got their colours and all students in prep to 2 added patterned feathers to our giant wings. These are now on display in our school foyer, surrounded by deadly children’s quotes.

Students in 3 to 6 classes created abstract collaborative artworks using markers and watercolor pencils. These were a lot of fun and really challenged students to develop trust and respect for others artworks .We have also begun working on our folio designs to write our name using creative lettering.

This term we welcome Joy Hester to the art room. Students from Prep to grade 6 will be exploring the life and works of Joy Hester  under the theme of “Portraiture,But Not as You Know It!” Hester is a contemporary Australian artist whose artworks focus on self portraits and images of her friends. She paints and draws in an expressive, highly individual style. We have already had an introduction to expressive portraiture through our well being artworks that I put on compass. Students were asked to explore continuous line drawings while creating self portraits. Students will further explore painting, and drawing with inks and charcoal. Art elements such as colour, texture, shape and form will also be explored.

I am very excited to welcome parents back to the art room to support student learning. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.  Ensure you have a current Working With Children’s check on file at the front office.

Looking forward to working with all you again,

Antoinette Vaiano

STEINER CRAFT

A big welcome to all our families, especially to our new Foundation community. For families that don’t know me, my name is Antoinette Vaiano. I have been teaching art at TPS for a long time now. I teach art and Steiner craft.

We started the term reviewing our Deadly Values by creating collaborative deadly art works. We read a Dreamtime story of How the Birds got their colours and all students in Foundation to year two added patterned feathers to our giant wings. These are now on display in our school foyer, surrounded by deadly children’s quotes.

Students in class three and four created abstract collaborative artworks using markers and watercolor pencils. These were a lot of fun and really challenged students to develop trust and respect for others' artworks. Students in class 5/6 created collaborative optical illusion artworks, where students had to ensure that the centerline all matched up with other students artworks. They then collaborated on colour and pattern to finish the artworks.

This term all students will continue to develop their craft skills by working on year level appropriate crafts. All classes will have the opportunity to create wet and needle felted craft items as agreed on by each class. The preps will also be creating stitched hessian bags to support and help develop their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. Class 1 and 2 will work on their recorder bags. Class 6 has already made a great start to their felted bowls using a foam resist to form the center of their bowls.

I am very excited to welcome parents back to the art and craft room to support student learning. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.  You will need to bring in your Working with Children’s Check if the office does not have it on file.

Looking forward to working with all you again,
