FOOD TECHNOLOGY

Over the last few years, we have informed McKinnon families of the wonderful food that has been produced by our students. We aim to do this again, throughout the year.

Our Year 7 group have been learning to navigate the kitchen safely and observe personal hygiene rules whilst developing their competency with cooking skills. Egg and bacon baskets, apple crumble, vegetarian burritos, pizza and wholemeal banana pancakes are among the recipes cooked so far.

Many students have commented that they will cook these foods at home and we trust that families are the recipients of their wonderful creations.

Our Year 9 Food Technology groups have also enjoyed cooking. They have explored a range of techniques and produced foods including Choc Chip biscuits, Pineapple Upside Down Mini Cakes, Lamb Back Straps and Salad, Thai Green Curry and Rice and Chocolate Fondant.

Year 10 students have enjoyed cooking foods that link to the theory being undertaken. They have developed their culinary skills through such recipes as Meatballs/Falafel with Tzatziki served with homemade flatbread, Chocolate Chip Biscuits, Apple Tarte Tatin, Sweet Potato, Broccoli and Tofu Curry with Cauliflower Rice and Berry and White Chocolate Friands.

Comments about the Berry and White Chocolate Friands were positive.

Jesse Coates said they were delicious, fluffy in texture dense in flavour and the berries added just the right amount of sweetness.

Maggie MacDonald also indicated that they were fluffy and sweet yet the white chocolate was a little overpowering.

The Sweet Potato, Broccoli and Tofu Curry with Cauliflower Rice was a surprise to many as they did not expect to enjoy it as much as they did.

Oriana Kogiannakis and Lola Vaysman have proudly shared photos of their final product with you.
