WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

Congratulations to the Senior Singers who received a large number of compliments after their fantastic performance at the World Day of Prayer on Friday 5 March.

The students lead the congregation in hymns and performed a number of songs at the service held at St Paul's Catholic Church, Bentleigh. Thank you to Ms Blanka West for her continuing development of this group and her organisation of this excursion.

A RETURN TO LIVE THEATRE!

On Wednesday 10 March, Year 9 and Year 10 Drama students did something very special, something no one had really done for the last year - they went to the theatre!

We attended the return season of 'Come From Away', a heartful and uplifting musical about the small Newfoundland town that cared for the thousands of stranded airline passengers in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. The students were impressed with the songs and beautiful design, and it was undoubtedly a powerful experience to share applause with an (almost, Covid-safe) theatre!

The students build their skills in written analysis by writing a short appraisal of the performance, increasing their ability to identify and describe how theatre makers have communicated meaning to their audience. We look forward to many more excursions this year, now that Melbourne theatre is getting back on its feet.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Congratulations to the Senior Stage Band who performed brilliantly at the General Assembly on Tuesday 16 March. This was their first performance for the year after their incursion on Wednesday 11 March. Thank you also to Grace James (Year 12) for singing the National Anthem with the band to open the assembly. Thank you to Mr Serebrianik for his ongoing development of this ensemble.

YEAR 7 BAND

Congratulations to all the Year 7 Band students who have taken part in their first instrumental lessons and had their first band rehearsal this week. Exciting times ahead for these new instrumental students. Thank you to Ms Videon for working through the process of instrument selection with the students.

HOUSE MUSIC

The House Music Festival took place periods 5 & 6 on Wednesday 17 March in the School Hall in front of all the Year 7 students, and was recorded and released to participants, friends and family in the evening. This has been the major focus of the students throughout this term, with rehearsals taking place before school, after school and during lunchtime every day since the beginning of February. The level of support for the students was amazing, as was the standard.

Thank you to our judge Mr Matthew Little for his amazing and enthusiastic support of the students and their work.

A huge thank you to Ms Katarina Vrisk for her fantastic organisation of this event, who with the support of Mrs Theresa Ford, created an extraordinary show. Thank you to Mr Nick Xanthoudakis and his fantastic team who coordinated the Audio Visual and filming of the event.

Congratulations to all the House Captains for their amazing work throughout the term and through the show. Whilst there could only be one winner, we are incredibly impressed with the standard that was brought to the show.

Congratulations to Chisholm for their incredible win for 2021.
