Alliance Française Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition

Every year, for over a century, millions of young Victorians have been bringing French poetry to life in the antipodes of France. The Berthe Mouchette Competition is a unique and memorable experience for the candidates and it reinforces the vitality of French in Australia.

Once again, Kilvington students did extremely well in this competition with:

  • 13 students receiving an excellent mention.
  • 17 students receiving a very high mention.
  • 5 students receiving a high mention.

Congratulations to the five students who have been selected as finalists for their brilliant poem recital in French:

  • Year 3 – Holly Krischock
  • Year 6 – Daniel Miller
  • Year 6 – Violet Rocks
  • Year 7 – Max Dillon-Shallard
  • Year 8 – Elijah Slavinskis

Bonne chance to these very brave students who will compete in the finals in August.

Certificates for participants will be given out in Term 4.

Senior School Bastille Day

On 13 July, we held a fundraiser on Bastille Day for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Thank you to students who supported this event. We raised $343 and had a lot of fun eating delicious French pastries on a cold and wet Wednesday!

Global Connections Program

A new display has been added near Main Reception to remember that despite our inability to travel and visit our partner schools, our ties remain strong and that we look forward to resuming our exchanges.

A very special thank you to staff member Rosie Busuttil for designing and laser-printing this display at School and to our Maintenance staff for mounting it to the wall on wooden frames with such a professional finish.

Maintaining strong ties with our partner schools

As we are not able to travel to visit our partner schools or host students from these schools, we continued to focus on curriculum projects to maintain and foster our strong ties with each country.

In Term 2, Year 7 students who have joined the Global Connections co-curricular activity, were able to send to each of our partner school an article about their perspective on the global issue of sustainability and the environment.

See below to read the responses from students in France and in Japan.

As part of this co-curricular activity, our Year 7 students were also able to meet online students from Todoroki High school in Tokyo, Japan and exchange their views and perspectives on this global issue.

The headmaster of Todoroki, Harada-sensei, joined in the discussion. Students exchanged questions, information and were very supportive and encouraging of each other speaking online.

Students in Year 8 French classes have also started exchanging information about Kilvington with our partner school in France, Saint Joseph La Salle.

You can read an article from our Year 8 French student, Joanna Jiang, in the below attachment.
