9-12 Community News

What a busy end to a very unusual year…...but we made it!

The last few weeks in the 9-12 Community have proven to be very busy. We have had our end or year exams, the Year 12 Graduation, Early Commencement and our Annual Awards Ceremony.

Our students are to be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves during the examination period.

The Year 12 Graduation Dinner was a lovely way to celebrate the achievements of our wonderful students and provided an opportunity for our 2020 Year 12 cohort to celebrate their graduation from Secondary School.

While we were unable to have families attend, we were able to live stream the event for them to enjoy. As you can see from the photos below, these young adults all looked amazing and ready to take on the next stage of their lives.

Thank you to the Year 12 TAs, Ms Jenner, Ms Pinnuck, Mr Ford and Ms Stewart, and all the Year 12 teaching staff for the many hours they have spent supporting and encouraging our Year 12s during the past weeks, months and years.

Our Year 12 students should all be proud of what they have achieved. Year 12 is always a difficult and stressful year. But, they made it to the end and also survived a global pandemic!

We trust they will look back at their time at St Augustine’s College and remember their time here with great fondness and happiness.

We look forward to celebrating their successes with them in the coming weeks when results are released on December the 30th.

Our Early Commencement Program this week has provided a wonderful opportunity for staff and students to get to know each other. Staff have created meaningful activities designed to engage students, in order to learn more about their different learning styles and establish what prior knowledge students may have of the subject area to help with their planning and preparation for the following year. This week has provided a valuable opportunity for teachers to plan curriculum and establish ways in which they can tailor learning to the individuals they have in their class.

Staff and students have also spent time co-constructing the expectations for classes for the coming year so that students are fully aware of what the learning and classroom expectations are for the year. The activities and programs also set out to promote and model the high expectations and growth mindset expected. TA time was dedicated to students participating in a survey to find their character strengths and establish some goal setting for the coming year. The week was filled with lots of activities to build positive relationships with students and staff alike and promote a safe and supportive learning environment.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the many wonderful staff, students and parents who have helped to make this year one to remember. We are very lucky to have such a fabulous group of people who make up our community and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with you all. In a year that presented us with so many challenges, we worked together to ensure the best outcomes were achieved. We would like to wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and look forward to working with you all again in 2021.
