5-8 Community News

Dear Families and Caregivers,

What an amazing first week. It was fantastic to see our students engage in what is sometimes, a challenging week.

We were blessed with some brilliant learning throughout the week.  We firstly would like to welcome our new Year 4 families, into Year 5. To support students in their transition, we have Mr Busch, Miss Davidson, Mr Archer and Miss M Johns.

Our new Year 7s have spent their first week in secondary school. This, of course, is a very exciting and new experience. They were supported by Mr S Smith, Miss B Johns, Mr B Thorpe and Miss R Partridge.

Our new Year 8s, who transition into their final year in our community were welcomed by Mrs Robinson, Mr McMahon, Mr Hill and Miss Clarke.

It was a very successful week and we hope the students enjoyed it as much as we did.

Here are some healthy tips for our students for their summer holidays:

  • Trust your feelings. If you feel that a situation is not right, move out of the situation. Go into a shop or use your phone to call a trusted adult.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. In social situations, be alert to places and situations that may make you vulnerable. Again, if you are feeling uneasy, use your phone and call a trusted adult or friend.
  • Walk confidently and alertly.
  • Don’t accept rides from anyone you don’t know.
  • Keep in contact with your friends and family. Let them know where you are. Send them a quick text.
  • Stay with your friends.
  • Walk together or in a group.

It's okay to turn your phone off and not respond to any social media messages. Turning off is okay and a good strategy to use if things are challenging.

Most importantly, if you are not sure of the people who you add on social media, please do not accept this request.

I wish you all the best in the Christmas holidays. Please stay safe and be kind to one another.

Take care and we will see you all in February.
