Are you a Sheep Farmer?

St Augustine’s is very excited to be running an Agriculture and Horticulture subject for our Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 students in 2021.

To assist us in the delivery of the subject, we are on the hunt for some poddy lambs next year.  If you are lambing in late summer or autumn and happen to end up with some unfortunate lambs that need hand rearing, please contact Steph Challis at the school or by email: stephaniechallis@sakyabram.vic.edu.au

Student Leader Formation Day

Approaching the end of the year, last Friday, 3rd December, the up and coming leaders of 2021 from Years 4, 8 and 12 met together at the Anglican Church in Kyabram with the goal of getting to know one another, learn leadership skills and kick start planning ideas for the year to come.

The day started with participating in various 'get to know you' and leadership activities, such as a bingo game, that got us communicating and collaborating with each other. After recess, Mr Stone came in to speak about the importance of T and T (trust and teamwork) in leadership and our roles, as well as sharing a few stories. We got into our groups and planned out a three-course lunch.  We then made our way to the shops to gather ingredients.  Once back at school, we prepared our lunch, which comprised of a platter of cheese, meat, vegetables and dips for entree, wraps for main and a combination of fruit skewers and frozen yoghurts. To finish off the day, various ideas and plans were discussed... which you'll have to wait to see in the year to come.

The day overall was described with words such as great, fantastic and informative by all students. To finish off our recount of events we would like to collectively thank all the teachers that made the day possible!!

Mini Vinnies

What we did at the St Vincent De Paul Excursion

Written by Remmi Webster and Scarlett Freeman, Year 6

When we went down to Vinnies we met Lisa (the Shop Manager) at the front of the store.   She explained what St Vincent De Paul's mission was and how it works. She took us inside to show us where they store the winter clothes and books that need to be sorted. Then she took us to the workshop to show us where they clean and sort out the clothes and other items. This is also where they collect mattresses.  We also found out that in this area, unlike other Op Shops or Thrift Stores, they steam the clothes.

Lisa talked about the different prices at different stores. She also talked about how Vinnies can get more people to come and buy from the store.  They do that by making sure their merchandise prices are below the normal retail price.  This also makes sure that the original sellers do not think that Vinnies is trying to one-up them.

Lisa likes to include everyone in the decisions and discussions - this is about everything within the shop. Lisa also talked about how when people asked for some money they have to go and consult the board.

Overall we learned that Vinnies is more than just an op shop and that they give more than they receive, which can be hard at times.  The Mini Vinnies enjoyed this experience so much that we hope to go back soon.

Italian Week in Il Globo

Our Italian Week celebrations at St Augustine's College made it the latest edition of "Il Globo", the Italian language newspaper published in Australia, with a short article and some photographs published - a great effort from the whole College!

Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project Donations

Our Catholic Social Teaching (CST) Leaders for 2021 have gathered the many donations brought to our TA spaces in Term 4. Our contribution of non-perishable food items, personal care products, cash and vouchers is a wonderful expression of the faith and generosity of our community as we approach Christmas. The Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project led by Sr Brigid Arthur csb will receive and distribute these items to people and families living on the margins of society.

We pray that the dignity of all people is realised and we commit ourselves to learning about how to make our world a more just place for all.
