From the Principal

Well, here we are, at the end of another school year.  No doubt, 2020 will be a year that we will remember for many years to come.  For a range of reasons, I will personally be grateful for the events of this year.  To be challenged in such an unprecedented manner allowed our College community to demonstrate what we can truly achieve.  The manner in which our staff took on this challenge, has certainly provided me with much gratitude, and now being able to take some time to look back, it has brought me much joy to know this community is capable of anything.

A community is only as good as the people that occupy it, and within our setting, the staff, students and families and also our parishioners, have come together to make 2020 the year it was.  We may have missed out on many planned activities and exciting programs, however we have continued to strive to deliver a dynamic learning environment.  In particular, our families have been amazing at ensuring learning has continued while working from home.

Over the last week we have been able to celebrate the achievements of so many.  Our Year 12 Graduation and Year 6 Celebrations allowed our students concluding their secondary and primary education years, to come together and celebrate this momentous occasion.

Over the last couple of weeks, our Years 10 and 11 students sat their end of year exams. This allowed them to experience an examination setting and learn the skill of revision in preparation for external examinations they will undertake in Year 12.  As always, our students rose to the challenge and followed the protocols extremely well.  We believe this to be a positive learning experience and of great value, as it helps to demystify the examination process for all our students.

In our very first newsletter this year, I mentioned that Samuel Hauser (Year 1) was undergoing chemotherapy.  Well, after almost 12 months of scans, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation, Samuel joined us back at school this week for a few hours.  It was without doubt, a special moment for Samuel and his parents, Lucy and Chris.  The joy that Samuel's presence brought to the faces of many, was truly special.  It can often be those little moments of pure joy that sit with us for a long time.  Watching Samuel flying around in his wheelchair and playing tiggy with his friends has certainly been my highlight for 2020.

I wish everyone all the very best over the holiday season.  May you take the time to enjoy special moments with your family and friends.

Lastly, I would like to leave everyone with a card that Samuel shared with me, when I met with him at his family home last week.  And yes, the card certainly brightened up my day.

Take care, stay safe and enjoy every blessing that Christmas brings to you and your family.
