Leadership Report
Yes! At last $7.74 Million to Rebuild
The news is fantastic, a well over due injection of funds to really compliment the fantastic 21st century learning happening at Newlands. The funds will provide us with the opportunity to create an educational precinct that will reflect our energy, educational creativity and of course our determined vision for language learning.
I do realise there are many questions and queries from our community as to how we will spend this fantastic amount of money. At this stage your questions will need to be put on hold until we return in 2021.
I would like to acknowledge the 'leap of faith' of those families who created the Newlands community way back in 2010 (enrolment 90 students), and supported me and the school to develop and grow and now become a neighbourhood school of choices for all the right reasons.
School Structure 2021
We have now finalised our Teaching Teams for 2021. As can be seen we have a number of new staff joining us in 2021. We also have two positions that we will appoint before our 'Transition Day' next Friday 4th December. One of most notable changes is having Graeme out of the classroom next year. This is really a fantastic change for the school and our teaching staff. Graeme will be working with staff across the school to support teachers to improve teaching and learning in the area of mathematics. We realise this is a major shift, but it is one we feel is right and important for the whole school. Our Specialist teachers have also changed for 2021. We have placed teachers in the Visual Arts and Performing Arts positions who with David will create opportunities for Spanish to be further explored and developed.

As many of you have observed there are names of teachers from our current staff not on our 2021list; Mark, Katey and Belinda. Mark has requested one year leave to support his husband while his partner choregraphs a new musical opening in Sydney for 2021. I speak for all of the Newlands community and wish him well for the next 12 months. Katey is resuming her teaching career in Northern Territory. We acknowledge her work this year and wish well returning to a part of Australia she really loves.
As the school has moved further towards being Bilingual we felt that having all three Specialist roles be Spanish bilingual was a great and timely option for Newlands. This has meant that Belinda will not be at Newlands in 2021. We thank her for all she has achieved with the students of Newlands and we wish her well in 2021.
Class lists and Teachers
We will provide families with the name of your child's teacher before our Transition Day next Friday 4th December.
Your child will receive a paper note indicating who their teacher will be for 2021. I would like to acknowledge the input of some parents, students in assisting with the process.
