Artes Visuales 2

(Visual Art)

Hello Newlands community! My name is Bess and I'm the new Art teacher. This year, we will be integrating Spanish learning into the Visual Art program - we're very excited about this!

F/1

Over the past two weeks, the F/1s have been learning and revising Art related vocabulary in Spanish (mainly the colour names and the names of activities that we do in the art room). As well as this, we have been leaning about the colour wheel. This term in F/1 Art, there will be a focus on collaborative learning and working together. This week, students worked in groups to paint a colour wheel made of patterns and pictures (as you can see in the photo above). They turned out great!

2/3

Over the past two weeks, the 2/3s have also been learning and revising Art related vocabulary in Spanish, such as colour names, the names of art activities and technical vocabulary such as 'primary colours' and 'secondary colours'. Students have been revising some basic knowledge of colour theory, and have practised mixing secondary colours using primary colours. We will soon be linking this learning to a unit about the symbolism of colours, and how this varies across different cultures. In addition to this, the 2/3s designed a cover for their new Visual Diaries which we are very excited to start using! Here is one fantastic and colourful example:

4/5/6

Over the past two weeks, the 4/5/6s have also been learning and revising some Art related vocabulary in Spanish, such as the names of common activities that we do in the art room, as well as the names of lots of other Visual Art mediums such as 3D animation, Installation Art, and Graffiti. Students have discussed the different types of Art that they like making and looking at, and have practised Spanish phrases for expressing this information. In addition to this, students have also designed a cover for their new Visual Diaries which we can't wait to fill with lots of creative ideas! Next week we will be preparing for the 4/5/6s visit to the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, or for those staying in Melbourne, their visit to the National Gallery of Victoria which will happen while the others are on camp. I hope the 4/5/6s are feeling excited about these gallery trips!
