Year 8 Boys Cricket

Only seven boys from Years 7 and 8 represented Lowanna at the recent district cricket round robin due to absences on the day of the competition. The seven boys bowled and fielded very well, but they struggled with the bat due to their inexperience. The boys were a pleasure to take out for sport and a big thank-you to Ian Savige for assisting on the day.

Game 1:

Lowanna     55 runs lost to Neerim South

1 wicket for 75 runs

Liam Jones 11 runs, Darcy Walsh 9 runs, Max Edebohls 1 wicket

Game 2:

Lowanna   22 runs lost to Warragul

5 wickets for 85 runs

Liam Jones not out 6 runs, Noah Obleshchuk 1 wicket, Max Edebohls 1 wicket, Noah Smith 1 wicket, Darcy Walsh 1 wicket 1 run out.

Year 8 Boys Tennis

The Year 8 boys tennis team recently played in the district tennis round-robin at the Moe Tennis Club. Our team of four players consisted of Platon Georgiou, Tanna Leicester, Elijah Potts, and Lachlan Delaney. Platon was the only player who regularly plays competition tennis and he was very competitive as our number one player. He looks to have a very good future in the game.

The other boys have played some recreational tennis and they all improved over the course of the day. Tanna and Elijah had exceptional wins in their singles matches against Chairo Christian School, both winning 4-0. In that match, Platon won a very tight battle in his singles match by winning the sudden death point in the tiebreaker to seal the win for Lowanna against Chairo.

The boys also played against Marist Sion and Drouin Secondary College and were beaten convincingly in both matches.

Lowanna was more competitive against Marist Sion with some very close sets, but Drouin was very strong and the best team on the day. Our boys conducted themselves very well throughout the day and were a pleasure to take out for sport.

Volleyball and Tennis

On Friday the 19th of March the Junior students came together to compete head to head with students across the West Gippsland district in the sports of Volleyball and Tennis.

They all played well, enjoyed themselves and improved throughout the day (this being the first time out on an interschool sports round-robin since covid last year.)

The Year 8 Girls were undefeated throughout the day winning every game in straight sets, as well as the Year 7 girls winning all sets minus one. Both teams are heading off to the next round (Gippsland Finals.) The Year 7 Boys nearly made it but lost the final 2 sets -1, as for the Year 8 Boys, unfortunately, were unsuccessful losing a couple of games on points margins but improved throughout the day and finishing with a great win over Chairo.
