ANZAC Day

On Friday the 23rd of April, the Year 11 and 12 VCAL students went to St Joseph's Primary School to run an ANZAC Ceremony for the whole school followed by classroom activities in Grades 3/4.

Feedback from the students and veteran include:

It was rewarding to speak about something so meaningful to primary school students. I hope they remember the messages the ceremony gave them. Ella

It was an honour to help run a ceremony in front of the war veteran, Brendan Kincade. I hope that our efforts made him proud. Ebony

It was a different opportunity to work with primary school students. I enjoyed how excited they were as they couldn’t wait to start the activities. Lily

The classroom activities involved a lot of teamwork, communication and leadership by the Killester girls. It was a lovely opportunity to develop these skills further. Emmy

Vietnam Veteran Brendan Kincade said  "I was blown away with the organisation and precision of today’s ANZAC Service. I felt very honoured to be there."

On the 30th of March, Vietnam Veteran Brendan Kincade came to speak to the VCAL students about leadership.

Student feedback was:

Brendan was really fun and engaging for the class. His stories were interesting and informed a lot about his experience in the Vietnam War such as the backlash and criticism he faced after coming back home. Junjila

Brendan Kincade came to visit us in period 5 and 6 to give us year 11 and 12 VCAL students a taste of the Vietnam War experience he had during that time when he was younger. We really thank him for giving us the time and coming to visit and tell us about his life at war. Emmy

International Workers Memorial Day

The 28th of April is International Workers Memorial Day. This day is a time when we remember those, such as the men impacted by the West Gate Bridge disaster, who have died from a work related injury, disease or illness.

Julieanne Ngo from Year 11 VCAL has written the prayer.

Almighty God,

May you look over those who have lost their lives during work. We thank them for their hard work and hope they are resting well with you. Please shield those who are suffering through these tough times and we pray that they get home to their families safe every day.

Amen.
