Year 7 Humanities - Being a Cartographer

Today's topic of learning in Year Seven was "Being a Cartographer". The girls were presented with the ideas that maps show people where to find an object, find their way or find a specific place.  They discussed the use of maps and what the meaning of the word cartographer was.  They then completed their "Treasure Hunt" activity.  In groups the girls selected an object around them (pencil case or stationary item) and hid their object in the grounds around the building.  They then quickly came back to the flexible learning space/year seven building to create their map with their team.  They then swapped their map with another group and used this to find the hidden object.  The girls learnt team work skills, communication, mapping, and problem solving in the lesson.  The chatter and excitement they showed was super infectious and showed their love and enjoyment of learning.  A very big thank you to Ms Harmes for planning a fantastic lesson which perfectly implemented the flexible learning space and also a big thank you to Jessica Pawlowski for filming her group's treasure hunt.
