Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have much to be thankful for as Term 1 draws to a close. Congratulations to all of our students for your commitment to learning and growth in faith.  I hope you all have a happy and safe holiday.

This week is Holy Week and at assembly each morning and during Religious Education lessons, students have been remembering and learning about the events of Holy Week and Jesus' journey to the cross.

Over the next few days, our church celebrates Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Please consider taking your children to the Masses and liturgies over these days as your participation as a family in the church will reinforce the learning your children have had at school.  Below are the dates and times of the Holy Week Liturgies in the parish of St Joseph's Bulli.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2022 due

Please note that Kindergarten Enrolments for 2022 are due at the end of Week 1 Term 2 (24 April 2021). Interviews will take place early next term. An enrolment form is available on the School News page of this newsletter.

Parents and Carers welcome at St Joseph's

We are particularly thankful that our parents and carers are now back in our school. Your presence makes our school a better learning environment and a more vibrant community.

Over the last week, we have enjoyed seeing many of you at our St Joseph's Day Picnic on Friday and again at the Cross Country on Monday.

On Thursday at 2pm, we will again hold our assembly on the grass area so that you may attend. The end of Term awards will be presented along with Merit Awards and Principal Awards. Please:

  • bring a chair
  • sign in using the QR codes located on the basketball courts
  • adhere to the 1.5m social distancing requirements.

In the event of rain, the assembly will be held in the hall and parents will be unable to attend because of the 2 square metre rule. Notice will be sent out via Compass in the event of wet weather.

Winter School Uniform

Thank you to parents and carers for the high standards you expect of your children in regard to the school uniform. The uniform is an important part of our identity as a school and each student's sense of belonging.

Students will begin wearing the winter uniform from Monday 10 May (after Mothers Day).  Parents may use discretion in the 2 weeks prior or following the summer to winter change over date should the weather be too cold or too hot.

Please note that the sports jacket should only be worn with the sports uniform except for exceptionally cold days when it may be worn over the sloppy-joe.

The expectations for the school uniform are outlined in the School Handbook. You may also visit Lowes Schools Online  .

Thinking About Your Child's Haircut?

Appropriate haircuts are a part of the school expectation along with the school uniform. Of late a small number of students have been pushing the boundaries with haircuts that don't meet the school expectation.

I kindly ask parents to please note our policy from the School Handbook:

Hair

Students are required to wear their hair in a neat and tidy manner.

o   Haircuts should be of an even grade.

o   Hair should be well brushed and combed.

o   Hair will not be in such a condition as to invite comment.

o   Long hair is to be tied back or plaited, off the face and should not extend to cover the eyes.

o   Navy blue headbands, ribbons and scrunchies are to be worn in the hair.

BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:

o   Extreme styles, bleaching, colouring or dyeing of hair are not permitted.

o   Gel, mousse and hair spray or other substances should not be used.

o   There will be no undercuts, steps or shaved lines within the hair.

o   Nothing shorter than a Number 2 comb is acceptable.

o   Students who do not abide by the haircut requirements will be asked to fix the identified problem.

In Term 2, we welcome Mrs. Annie Harris back from parental leave. Annie will take up her position with Mrs. Rollestone as the class teachers in 1J.  Thank you to Miss Vanessa Loumanis who has shared the classroom teacher role in 1J throughout Term 1.

Miss Nicole Redmond will be taking leave during Week 1 of Term 2, 19-23 April 2021. We wish Nicole many blessings for her wedding and look forward to her return as Mrs. Nicole Ford. During this time, Celia Grbevski will be teaching 4J.

Long Service Leave

Miss Pamela Di Domizio will be taking Long Service Leave during Week 1 of Term 2, 19-23 April 2021. During this time, Miss Vanessa Loumanis will be teaching 1M.

I will be on leave for the first four weeks of Term 2. Mr. Miguel Aguilera will be the Acting Principal during this time and Mrs. Christine Smith and Mrs. Kylie Grose will share the position of Acting Assistant Principal.

Thank you for a wonderful term and for loving St Joseph's as much as I do.

St Joseph, "Show yourself a father, and guide us in the path of life."
