BPS Sports Shorts

Thank you to our amazing students, staff and community for a wonderful start to PE and Sport at BPS in 2021!

This term has been packed full of excellent growing and learning in PE with all our students learning about why it's so important to stay active, not just now as a youngster, but for life. In PE we have been looking fitness games and activities that raise our heart rate and asking the questions "what happens to our body before and after exercise, why does our heart beat faster and where can we measure our heart rate?"

Students have been learning to find and take their own heart rate on their body (radial and carotid artery) and describe how they are feeling before and after exercise. Words like calm, energised, proud, confident, exhausted, happy, huffing and puffing, hot and sweaty have been used to describe how they feel post exercise. It's been amazing seeing the learning going on and the conversations we've had about physical activity and why it's important for our physical, social and emotional wellbeing to stay active for life.

In addition to this, our Grade 3 - 6's have completed their Beep Test, a test of cardio-vascular endurance. Goal setting was a focus in this activity to give our students an level and shuttle run to reach and exceed. There have been many outstanding results from our students and the efforts they put in to give their best is amazing.

We've had a huge turnout with our BPS Before School Running club and it makes my heart smile seeing so many athletes out there getting active before school starts. Thank you to Alan Smith and his team of amazing volunteers for making this possible for our students. You shine and we appreciate your awesome efforts!

Our Amazing House Captain Team are in full swing now with presenting assembly Sports Shorts, Lunchtime Sports Borrowing and helping at special events (BPS House Cross Country). Thank you Louie, Zara, Lachlan, Tom, Emilie, Elle, Hannah and Ryan for your terrific start!

Congratulations to all our grade 5 and 6 students and teachers who represented our school at our Blackburn District Summer sports round robin in sofcrosse, volleystars, tennis hot shots, basketball and cricket. Our students and teachers had an amazing day. Congratulations to our tennis hot shots and girls volleystars team for winning their competition and to our cricket and sofcrosse team for being runners up. It was wonderful to have parents come to our games and support our teams!

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped us at our Basketball Hooptime; Nicole Battye, Adrian Wu, Elizabeth Dunne, Carly Cassidy, Claire Margison, Martine Oglethorpe and Joey Dong. Your help was vital to our day running smoothly and us feeling encouraged! Thank you!

And of course our BPS House Cross Country this week! Thank you to all our students, staff, volunteers and House Captains for your amazing efforts on this day!

Have a blessed Easter and a wonderful term 1 holidays BPS. We can't wait to see you back ready to go again in term 2! Have fun and move on BPS!
