F-6 Music

FOUNDATION AND GRADE ONE

Each week students in Foundation and Grade One will take home a piece of work from their Music lesson to share with their family. Look in your child’s school bag every Friday for their Music Satchel and encourage your child to share their learning with you.

This week, Foundation students have been learning about TEMPO. Can your child tell you what TEMPO means? Encourage your child to describe the two different pictures on their worksheet sheet and to explain what they both demonstrate.

Students in Grade One have been enjoying playing percussion instruments while they read rhythmic notation scores.

Can your child tell you how a percussion instrument makes sound?

I hope everybody has a safe Easter break, and I’ll see you all back in Term 2 for more Music fun.

Hello everyone!

Grades 2-6: 'Music Share'

What a busy and fun week we have had in the Music Room with Music Share a-plenty!

The Grades 2-6 students enjoy the opportunity to participate in Music Share each year. We recently reminisced with photos from Music Share participants from years gone by (well, the last 4 years anyway!) There were fits of laughter and shouts of ‘I remember this!’ Not to mention how everyone has changed over the past 4 years – we all loved the visual memories of toothless smiles and seeing students who have since left BPS.

Music Share allows for students to communicate talents which their peers (and I) may otherwise not be aware of. It is a fabulous learning opportunity for the performer and the audience.

Below are photos of students who participated in ‘Music Share’ last week and performed (in lots of different ways) during Music Lessons. Here are some examples of the talents we were graced with:

  • Making their own ‘mash-ups’ of songs and singing them in English AND Chinese (without instrumental backing!)
  • Garage Band projects
  • Chinese dancing
  • Irish dancing
  • Leading the class in a dance routine
  • Song Maker compositions (using Chrome Music Lab)
  • Puppet show
  • Playing their instruments / demonstrating how sound is made / how to clean and care for the instrument
  • Making instruments using objects from home
  • Using various media to put their artworks to music

I will include photos of this week’s Music Share participants in next term’s newsletter. I am also preparing a photo display which you’ll find in the gym foyer when you return in Term 2 (our students love seeing photos of themselves and their peers when lining up for Miss P!)

Wishing you and your families a wonderful Easter and a safe and happy holiday!
