Year 7 relay freestyle team at MSAC

State Swimming Championships

Congratulations to our students who competed in the State Swimming Championships at MSAC on April 22.  Matteo Rossi Hunt, Acacia Schipper and Tiger Whittle all competed in individual events and William Panay, Miles Parfitt, Samuel Francis and Amyn Ibrahim competed in the Freestyle Relay.

Competing in 3 events, Matteo took home medals both 50m Breaststroke where he came first and in the 200m Individual Medley where he came 2nd.  Acacia and Tiger placed well in their events, as did our Junior Relay team. Although they didn’t make the podium, the relay boys smashed their time that the got when competing in the Regionals.  Well done to all our State Swimmers, to qualify to get to this level is an amazing achievement.

Intermediate Regional Baseball

Last Thursday, Year 9/10 Northcote students took on Viewbank SC, Brunswick SC, Mernda SC and Montmorency SC at the regional baseball competition. With a team made up mostly of cricketers, we did an outstanding job winning our first three games through a combination of great team hitting, some excellent pitching by Ethan and Connor and some great fielding – the highlight a catch in the outfield from Stan. The last game against Montmorency ended up being the final, and coming up against a team full of baseballers and a pitcher who threw extremely fast, we held our own and played a good game, unfortunately going down 6-1, ending as runners-up on the day. A great job by all!

National Track and Field Champion Archie Noakes

After qualifying at the state championships last term, Year 11 athlete Archie has continued his fantastic form, competing for the first time at the National Track and Field Championships at Sydney’s Olympic Park on April 18-19.

On the Sunday, Archie obliterated the field in the U18 2000m Steeplechase to comfortably win and set a National Championships ‘Meet Record’ with his time of 5:45:52.

Incredibly, he backed it up the next day, with another amazing run in the U18 3000m race, burning off Victoria’s state champion with 300m to go and powering home for back-to-back gold medals and yet another National Championships 'Meet Record' with a time 8:23:87.

Congratulations Archie on your fantastic achievement!
