We have had such a fantastic week in PE; time is flying by! Some students are getting ready to represent Kilsyth at District Cross Country. We have been working together to create a supportive environment where students have the confidence to "have a go". We have spoken about sportsmanship and how we can support and encourage others.

Foundation has begun practising the skill "The Ball Bounce". Students have focused on bouncing the ball with their fingertips and bending their elbow as they bounce the ball. They are still exploring their bodies and how they move, making it a challenging skill to perform. The students have loved learning a new game called Fruit Salad.

Junior has enjoyed working on their Two-handed side-arm strike, showing fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship by supporting and encouraging each other. We have focused on holding the bat correctly whilst hitting a ball off a tee. The first step is to place your preferred hand above your non-preferred hand; students practised this skill and are ready to move forward.

Middle and Senior students are still focussing on the 'Punt Kick'. We have gone through four steps, including; holding the ball at hip height, step forward with their non-preferred leg, follow through with punting leg and guiding the ball down with hand ensuring it swings past their body. We offered students time to practice and gain confidence before adding another step. Students have enjoyed playing mini-games involving kicking.

Senior students have also kicked off the term with interschool sports, playing netball (open and girls), soccer and volleyball. Girls netball and volleyball had a win; well done!

Good Luck to all students competing at District Cross Country; the whole School is behind you!

Visual Art

Foundation students have been working hard on textiles so far this term. This week we have been creating caterpillars using socks! They have stuffed them, added pipecleaner legs and used fabric markers to create interesting patterns. Next week, we will be adding pom poms, sequins, glitter and beads!

Junior School have been in modelling madness mode. They have used the skills learnt in previous weeks to create Plasticine bugs. This week we used Paper Magiclay to create birds. Magiclay is air-drying, can be coloured before drying with water based textas or drawn on after drying and is mess free! We loved using it! Next week - fish!

Middle School have been continuing their paper mache piggy banks. It's a long, slow process but very worthwhile! We can't wait to see these painted.

Senior School have FINALLY completed their cat and dog collage pieces. They look AMAZING. Check out some pics below or have a look in the art room window! We have started making our printing plates and will print these in the coming weeks.

Kind regards,

Rebecca Bertrand
