Junior School News

Term 2

Another exciting fortnight

We have had another great fortnight in Junior school with an incursion on the 6th of May. We were  fortunate enough for two local paramedics to come in and tell us all about what they do and even used a couple of students as pretend patients.

The students learnt how important it is to know their address and their parents' mobile phone numbers in case they ever have to call 000. If your child doesn't know this it's a great time to start practicing.

Friendology

We have started a new program every Friday with our Foundation friends where we are learning all about how to make, keep and be a great friend! This is helping all our Junior School students to connect with different people across the level and we will begin to start exploring healthy friendships and productive ways to resolve conflict which is a much needed skill at this age group! We will continue doing this program all term to support our students.

Literacy

For the first couple of weeks of the term our students have been writing recounts, where they are retelling us events they have experienced. Students completed recounts on our excursion to the arts centre and we have these on display in our Junior School hallway for anyone wanting to pop in and have a look.

We are beginning to write narratives (stories) and  students are getting their creative minds happening to imagine fantastic, interesting and sometimes very scary characters with magical and fascinating problems to solve.

Numeracy

We have just completed our first unit of Money in maths this term. We have been so proud and impressed by our students skill in recognising and counting coins, we know they all wish the money we had was real so they could go on a spending spree after completing their maths learning!

Shout out for supplies!

We would still really appreciate any boxes of tissues for the classroom.

Thank you for all the boxes for our design and technology unit this term. We are still looking for things such as:

  • feathers
  • foam balls
  • scraps of fabric
  • wool
  • fabric
  • string
  • unused paddepop sticks
  • plastic caps
  • google eyes
