CASAA

Community and Social Awareness Award 2023

This year has seen a few changes to the structure of this annual event run through the Personal Learning program at year 9. The CASAA program enables student to design their own learning modules which might take on an individual focus, a small group concept or a team challenge involving the whole class.

This year, the year 9 classes are coming together to share a Community Day with the rest of the school. Students have chosen to create a series of small stalls offering an array of cupcakes, brownies and cookies  including GF) and also a variety of activities such as face painting, Christmas bauble decorating, jewellery and more. Whilst the main focus is for our students to work together to plan and create a functional stall, any funds raised will be donated to a nominated charity.

The Community Day stalls will be held at lunchtime on Wednesday November 2 under the sails. Cash only sales please. Bring your coins.

Design a Flag for Antarctica

MGSC have registered for the Antarctica Day flag competition run by the UKPN.

There are over 380 schools entered and are able to submit just one PDF per school – which means we may need to combine flags into an A4 page PDF.

The deadline to receive your flags is the 20th of November,  to guarantee they will make it to Antarctica in time. Many crews are already heading down to Antarctica. A reminder email will go out about a week before the deadline, just in case!

When it comes to designing your flags please try and make them as bright and colourful as possible – flags that are mostly white can be difficult to see against the snowy backdrop of Antarctica! Please send them as a PDF to keep the file size small – they can be hand-drawn or designed on the computer. If they are hand drawn please scan in rather than photograph, as sometimes the quality disappears from a photograph. Our school emblem can be included on the flag if you wish.

Once we receive a photograph of your flag back from Antarctica you will receive the photo and a certificate to display at school. All submissions will be displayed at school with an opportunity for students to vote on a winner(s).

Please send your flag to Ms Harvey directly via school email.

If you have any questions please contact Ms Harvey.
