Learning Across the ELC

Spring in Banksia Blue

Spring Collages

Being spring, our garden is blossoming with the flowers bright and colourful. This fortnight we have offered the children an opportunity to explore spring collages. The table was set up with paper, glue sticks, scissors, coloured pens and clay pots filled with different flowers that the children had collected from the outdoor exploration (nature garden). The children were very vigilant looking out for bees before picking and flowers and we discussed how important bees our for the environment.

Exploring Loreto Environments

We have beautiful environments here at Loreto, and this fortnight we made use of the wonderful space. The children explored the nature garden in the junior school, where they were encouraged to smell and pick the flowers and investigate their surroundings. “What can you see? What can you hear? What have you discovered?” Are just a few of the questions the children were asked.

We wanted to encourage the children to be aware of their senses and make new discoveries in the environment. The tennis court was another beautiful space we utilised over the fortnight. The children love the open space that the court offers, using it for bike riding and ball play.

Our Loreto Environment in Banksia

The children exploring their environment across the Junior school invite open-ended interactions, spontaneity, risk-taking, exploration, discovery, and connection with nature. They foster an appreciation of the space around them and learn about the land they learn on. Through our adventures, the children are developing their gross motor skills, taking risks, showing courage and perseverance as well as having fun together.
