KITCHEN NEWS

WEEK 8

CABBAGE, CUCUMBER & PAPINO

Over the past fortnight, we have been looking at cabbabge, cucumber and papino.

We talked about Japanese pancakes 'OKONOMIYAKI' and that it translates to 'whatever you choose'. The most important ingredient however is cabbage. We added grated carrot, sweet potato, silverbeet, onion, egg and then topped it off with some delicious Japanese sauces. Everyone loved this!

As for the cucumber we made a delicious, summery, refreshing drink called an 'AGUA FRESCA'. WE added lime juice, mint, sugar and water. I know I will definitely be making this over Summer!!

We also discovered a fruit called a PAPINO in the garden. We all tasted a small piece and decided the flavour was similar to the flavour of a cucumber and cantaloupe.

Garden News......

Our garden classes have enjoyed getting to know our newly named chooks this week.

Chicky, Nay Nay, Luke Sky Walker, Fairy Floss & Sonic the Hedgehog have all joined our chicken clan.

November has been Recycle Month and in the Garden we have looked at all the things we recycle.  Our classroom fruitscraps have gone into our worm farms and compost bays and have turned into amazing worm tea and soil fertiliser .  We had a great time looking for Compost Critters that do a great job and breaking down our scraps.

Adult worms, worm cocoons, earwigs, butcherboys, millipedes and slaters all busily munching on our scaps.

We have also been planting pumpkin and cumcumber seeds for our summer crops and getting our garden beds refilled and weeded.

Discovering nature outside of our garden is a great thing, especially if we find once living animals.

Saying Hi to Galaxy & Mystery and there's always time to enjoy the sun

 Happy Gardening.
