Year 5 Encounter to Swan Valley Adventure Centre.

Head of Primary, Tracey Rogers

There has been so much excitement around Primary this week as our new Primary Playground opened for use. Students and staff alike have taken great joy in testing out the new equipment and the challenges on offer. Students and staff are collaborating on a Playground Essential Agreement to help set us up for safe, inclusive fun over the coming weeks, months and years.

Part of designing an effective playground is building in challenging elements and allowing students to experience and manage risk. Our playground is really delivering on this. The older students have reported back that the rope traverse from the tower to the fort is a particularly challenging element, whilst the younger students are finding the monkey bars and even the swings are presenting challenge.

My thanks to parents and families for the support during the development period and for helping with keeping students off the equipment before and after school. This is really appreciated.

Year 5 Camp

Our Year 5 students embarked on their Encounter to Swan Valley Adventure Centre. Thanks to the staff and parents who attended in support of this experience and to Ms Melanie Fowler for her leadership of the Encounter program. The students represented themselves and the School well and in their reflections at the end of camp noted teamwork, overcoming fears and encouragement of one another as key strengths demonstrated during camp.

Assembly Week 3

At our Assembly in week 3 we were finally able to present our Athletics and Junior Speakers’ Challenge trophies and medals. Held in the Upper Primary Building, it was lovely to have students, staff and families come together. It has been wonderful getting back to some of our face-to-face events.

Christmas Pixie Post

Year 5 student, Kobe Mullan, also reminded students about Pixie Post. The initiative Kobe introduced in 2021 was so popular, we are doing it again this year. Our Pixie Post box is just in for repairs but will get started in the next week or so. Look out for it in Primary Reception. ELC students can deliver their Christmas post through the special Pixie Post boxes in their classrooms. Don’t forget to include the name and class of the recipient on each envelope.

Instrumental Concert

Students across the school performed in the annual Instrumental Concerts held Tuesday and Wednesday night this week. It is always a pleasure to see the students perform, see the positive relationships they have formed with their Music tutors and other students and for many, overcome the fear of showing their skills to an audience. We are always proud of their willingness to be risk-takers and share their gifts with us.

Year 1 Encounter to Perth Zoo

Year 1 students visited Perth Zoo for their Encounter experience. Students took part in the Gwabba Boodja Indigenous seasons experience and participated in a range of activities to help them to develop their understanding of Noongar culture and their connection to country through stories and bush walk experiences.

Year 3 Encounter to Woodman's Point

The Year 3s enjoyed a day of adventure, sunshine and waves at Woodman Point for their Encounter this year. Our thrill-seeking students loved the Flying Fox, which, at significant height, proved challenging for many among us. Others loved beach activities or the Search and Rescue task that test our Talkie-Walkie skills (yes, Talkie-Walkies!). Our gratitude to all the staff and parents that made this Encounter happen.
