Wurrin News - Years 8 & 9
wurrin@bairnsdalesc.vic.edu.au
On Friday 18th November - Sunday 20th November, a number of students from Wurrin Hub attended the Energy Breakthrough Race in Maryborough along with other students across the College.
Congratulations to these students for representing our school in such a positive light.
Science
Students from 9G Science produced pictures during their lesson on the use of minerals to create paint pigment. Students learned that, throughout history, different minerals have been used to create pigment (white, brown, green etc.). Some painters had to make their own paints. Testing the mineral in these paints can help you date a painting if you suspect a forgery.
Science and Humanities
Year 8 Science and Humanities students have been studying Geology in class, they have been studying both natural and man-made landscapes. This week the students travelled to Lakes Entrance and the Buchan Caves to gain a greater understanding of the impacts on the different landscapes and the land forms that they are made up of.
What's on the menu
Year 9 students have been busy in the hospitality room with some Christmas baking. Not sure if any will be left for Christmas......
Students have been participating in a skate club in the BARC at lunchtime throughout Term 4. Students have been learning some new skills, having fun, and try something different with a coach. Kylie, a staff member and also a member of Gippsland Lakes Roller Derby club has been providing the instruction to the students. A special thanks Gippsland Lakes Roller Derby club for letting our students loan skates.
