Teaching and Learning

Year 4,5,6 News from Miss Duffy

For the last three weeks we have been looking at dinosaurs and the different eras that some of them lived in. The students have researched which era particular dinosaurs lived in and then created timelines. We have also looked at how fossils are formed and the types of tasks and research that palaeontologists do.

In Writing, we have created hybrid texts with most students just putting the finishing touches on their published books. We are really looking forward to sharing these with each other, the younger students and with our families- we are really proud of these stories.

Numeracy has seen us collecting, collating and presenting data. Students have been able to show that they can collect data and present it in multiple formats, with and without assistive technology.

Little Legend

Kiyden has been doing some excellent work at school recently and he is often too shy to be in any photos; so here is a solo picture of him and his maths work from last week. Great job, Kiyden. A special thank you to Mez who has been helping Kiyden at school, they make a great team!

News from Miss Coffey

Writing with Miss Coffey (Prep-2)

Here we are typing up our cinquain poems...

Week 6 and 7 have seen the Prep-2 children finish writing their ‘colour’ poems and start to write ‘cinquain’ poems. Cinquain Poetry is written about a chosen topic and contains 5 lines. Each different line has a set number of syllables and uses language features like adjectives (describing words) and verbs (doing or action words) to describe the chosen topic in more detail. We look forward to sharing them with you in the next newsletter.

Meanwhile, check out our amazing colour poems below!

Writing with Miss Coffey (Grade 6)

Weeks 5, 6 and 7 has seen the Grade 6’s finish writing their formal thank you letters to Mrs Gentry for organising the trip to Kangaroo Flat PS and continuing to work on being better prepared for Year 7. So far, we have looked at reading and understanding a sample Year 7 weekly timetable, writing answers to questions in full sentences along with reading and answering questions related to an Eaglehawk Secondary College map.

MARC Library News from Mrs Gentry

Outdoor Education

Last week we combined our new found love of ephemeral art (using nature to create art works) and our Integrated Studies learnings about dinosaurs to make 3D models of real or invented dinosaurs. We talked about the features that most herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs had as well as what ominvores might look like in terms of size, legs vs arms and teeth. Thank you to Jarrod who was able to get us some sheep bones that added to our creations.

Kelly Sports

Last week we participated in indoor cricket with Coach Beau ( and some of his helpers), all students thoroughly enjoyed the chance to learn and practice bowling, catching and batting skills.

Jets Gym

We have two more sessions left at the gym. Our students have really enjoyed the opportunity to climb, tumble, jump, roll and flip in the safety of a gym environment. Each week our students are introduced to something new to try; it has been so wonderful seeing all of our students willing to try new and unfamiliar moves.
