Amelia and Shemmy, our State Champs!

A silver and a bronze in their first year of State Championships!!! To make it to a state championships is an incredible feat let alone win a medal but our two shining lights, Amelia and Shemmy did just that last Wednesday at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park!

It's been a while since BPS has had an opportunity to celebrate State Championship qualifiers and this year we've had not one but two of our athletes qualify for the Victorian State Track and Field Championships. Both of our athletes are up and comers in their chosen events and have the world at their feet. Still only 10 years old, both Amelia and Shemmy have been shining lights right from the word go in athletics this year. From House Aths to District, from District to Division, from Division to Regionals and finally State, both athletes have gone above and beyond, set new PB's and broken school records!

Shemmy competed for BPS in the 10 year high jump, which she won at regionals with a new school record of 1.30m. At state Shemmy won a bronze medal for the high jump and jumped 1.27m. This is an incredible effort, particularly because Shemmy doesn't train outside of school for athletics!!! Since then Shemmy and her family have attended Box Hill Athletics and with some encouragement it looks like she may pursue this area she is so gifted in.

Amelia represented BPS in the 10 year triple jump, which she also won at regionals setting a new BPS record for her age group. At state, Amelia won a silver medal and jumped an incredible 8.27m! This is incredible seeing her previous best was 7.89m!!! Amelia and her sisters, Chelsea and Eliza have been enjoying competing at the Box Hill Athletic Track meets this year. Amelia has been incredibly dedicated to consistent training for triple jump, despite having severs, a painful condition of the heel that occurs in growing children. Going from strength to strength, Amelia started the year out jumping from the 6m board and now takes-off consistently from the 7m board with her biggest jump in competition being at State - 8.27m!

Thank you to Amelia and Shemmy and the courageous way you have continued to step up at each event you've competed in. The results of both Shemmy and Amelia is BPS' best ever results at a State Track and Field Championships in the last 18 years since I've been at BPS! We hope this inspires all our athletes at BPS that with hardwork, training and a passion for what you love, anything is possible!

Thank you also to Shemmy and Amelia's families who have supported them along the journey!

Throughout their time competing, each of the following athletes has stretched themselves to new heights and broken previous records

State Gymnastics Team event see BPS shine!

In their first ever State Team Gymnastics competition, grade 3 gymnasts, Cleo, Holly and Elektra, displayed excellent resilience, skill and courage to step up into this new experience. Filled with a few nerves and lots of excitement all three of our gymnasts competed for their respective clubs in the Level 3 WAG (Women's Artistic Gymnasts) competition. Cleo is part of the Eastern Gymnastics Club and competed in division 2, while Elektra and Holly competed for their club, BTYC in division 3.

The experience for all three of our gymnasts was amazing and has certainly inspired them to continue to work hard and enjoy their sport.

When asked about their own personal experiences at state, this is what our gymnasts had to say...

Holly

"My favourite part of the experience was being there with my friends and coaches. My favourite apparatus are the floor and the uneven bars."

 Cleo...

“I felt excited and proud to compete. I love my team, we know that we can be great together. We didn’t do too well on bars so we know we have to work hard on that for next time. ”

Cleo's team won a 1st in the floor and 3rd on the beam, which is an awesome effort!

Elektra

“I was a little bit nervous, excited but ready to go! I was really proud of myself and my team on the day. My favourite part of the day was when I was on the beam because I think I did really well.”

Congratulations to all three of our students and their families for their outstanding efforts! It's really brave to enter a state championships competition, especially for the first time and you have done you and your families proud! We can't wait to hear more about your gymnastics experiences in the future! High five!

F-2 BPS Kaboom Olympic House Sports

Thank you to our F-2 students, staff and Grade 6 leaders for making our F-2 Kaboom Olympic House Sports such a special event! Even though I couldn't be there I had lots of videos and photos being sent my way on the day and it made me smile to see everyone having fun moving together. A special mention to Mr F and the Kaboom Team for making the day so much fun! Thanks to Mr F, Mr Pitinga and Ms Fraser for their special dance moves in the warm-up on the day!

BPS Netball Teams and rep. trials

Congratulations to all our BPS netball teams. I had the pleasure of watching a few games several week's ago at Vermont South and seeing our Superstars in action! I also enjoyed watching our team's train last Wednesday at BPS! It's so wonderful to see the teamwork and skills our players are developing together! Thank you to all our coaches and a special mention to Mrs Felicite for originally getting this off the ground and the BPS netball club committee and President, Brandy Munro. Your efforts to help our students love the game of netball is amazing!

We would also like to acknowledge all our players who attended rep trials for netball a few weeks ago and to congratulate them on their hardwork and courage. We have five players who have been selected in the Whitehorse and Ariels representative teams from these trials. Congratulations to grade 5 students, Lauren, Ivy and Tessa and Grade 4 students, Ava and Amelia. We hope you enjoy the experience of representing your division and growing in your skills and understanding of the game!

Oli, our next tennis star in the making!

Results don't just happen, they come with hardwork, more hardwork and a love for whatever it is you're doing. For Grade 4 student, Oli, tennis is his passion. Last Friday Oli was selected to attend a special event at the National Tennis Centre. Congratulations Oli on being selected for this opportunity and we hope you had fun doing what you love to do out there on the tennis court!
