Swimming

Swimming kicked off yesterday with a bang, with all students starting terrifically in their lessons and with their instructors. It was great to see them all so excited to get in the water. Please continue to remember to bring a spare swimming bag each day this week.

ESTA 000 Emergency Call - Incursion

This Thursday we have Tara from ESTA (Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority) coming in to speak to all year levels around making emergency 000 calls. We know this will be a great opportunity for all students to know and understand procedures and the expectation when making a 000 call. It would be wonderful for families to have a follow-up conversation at home. This may be where to find your home address if your child has not memorised it yet, or just a follow-up conversation about what to do if an emergency arises at home.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Grandparents and Special Friends Day is creeping up on us, with it only being a few weeks away now! This has traditionally been a highlight on the calendar, and with it missing over the last few years due to Covid, we can’t wait to have the day back.

The day will run on Friday 25th November, from 9am - 11am at the Scotsburn campus, with some interactive activities planned for the grandparents and special friends to get involved in.

We are also asking that parents could please bring a plate for morning tea on the day, which we will hold in the old building between 11am - 11.30am.

If you are able to assist on the day please pop your name on list below.

Keep an eye out next week for a personalised invitation to be sent home!

Tully Energy Breakthrough

Good luck to Tully who will join the Buninyong Primary School Energy Breakthrough team this Thursday to Saturday in Maryborough. This is a huge undertaking for everyone involved and is such a rewarding experience. We know you will love the experience Tully!

Assembly This Friday

We will hold another short assembly this Friday in the shed at 9am. With so much on at the moment, it is important that we make sure we can all stay on top of things. We would love to see you there. After our assembly, feel free to hang around and catch up for a coffee and a chat in the old building.

Remembrance Day Scotsburn Assembly

Last Friday we held our Scotsburn Remembrance Day Commemoration Assembly at the campus. Our Grade 6 leaders did a magnificent job leading the service, ensuring that it was meaningful for all students. Well done to all Scotsburn students who were respectful and attentive throughout.

2022 School Magazine

A reminder that the 2022 school magazine is now available to order via QKR. These magazines make a great keepsake for families to remember the year that was. This year we have pages from every class, memories from our specialist sessions, major events throughout the year, a staff page and much more.

To purchase a magazine, please go to QKR to place your order.

End of Year Scotsburn Concert and Picnic - KEEP IN THE CALENDAR!

With the school year finishing on a Tuesday this year, we have needed to move the end of year concert and picnic to the 17th of December, which is Friday of Week 11. We will also be running the concert in an earlier time slot, during the school day between 2pm - 4pm. We understand that this may make it a little difficult for some working parents, however with time to plan, we hope arrangements can be made. We were also very conscious of events that may be planned on Friday nights at that time of the year, so hopefully, this can work around those. Over the next month, you will receive lots more information regarding end of year arrangements, however, we wanted to have this one locked in the calendar for everyone!

SC1 Learning Snapshot

Wow - Week 7! The end of the school year is fast approaching. It has been wonderful the last couple of weeks for students to celebrate their learning journey and how far they have come. We have continued learning about services and people in our community that help us. It will be fantastic for students to hear from Tara, an ESTA 000 call centre worker, this Thursday about how we make an emergency call. We know this will be a valuable experience for our students. On Thursday 24th November, SC1 will be participating in a community walk around Buninyong to visit some of the services we have been learning about. This will include the Fire Station, Police Station, Post Office, and Buninyong Veterinary Clinic. Students will need to be dropped off and collected from the Buninyong Campus. Please keep an eye on next week’s newsletter and Compass for additional information.

In Maths, we have been working hard on our Maths fluency skills. This includes quick double facts, skip counting, and number patterns. In Writing, we have had a big focus on creating narratives (story books) and using capital letters and punctuation correctly. A big thank you to all families for supporting reading at home. We know this makes a huge difference to your child’s reading skills.

Thanks and have a wonderful week,

Ana.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

This week in SC2 we welcomed Beth who is an education student in Manchester, U.K. Beth has been getting to know the students as she has been observing to see how education looks in Australia as opposed to in England.

We have continued to do some testing across Literacy and Numeracy this week and the students enjoyed our Family Group rotations on Friday. Below, students can be seen exploring the focus of ‘Push and Pull’

Our unit on Money is coming to a close and it has been wonderful to see the students' development as they have made and renamed different monetary amounts, ‘shopped’ and provided change from different values.

Thank you for getting your swimming notes back so promptly, I know the students are very excited about swimming this week.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable week,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Another week has flown by in SC3, with us having lots on the go at the moment. Last week we completed some important assessment tasks, and I was so proud of the way everyone applied themselves and gave their personal best efforts. Reading some of the writing pieces demonstrated some wonderful growth in both structure and detail.

In Maths we are currently finishing off our Measurement unit, with our Goldfields maps looking brilliant. We are now moving to Chance and Data, with some fun trials and experiments on the way. It was great last week to get a chance to play some maths fluency games with SC1, sharing our knowledge and skills in a fun and collaborative way.

After a few weeks of having Thursday’s out of class, it was great to get back into our morning spelling structure, with SC3 students using different and fun ways to work on their spelling words. Students find doing this allows them retain the words much more effectively to use in their writing.

It was Gaye’s birthday on Sunday!!! Thanks to everyone who brought a plate of food in on Monday. It was a little last minute so we really appreciate it. We know Gaye goes to so much effort to make everyone else feel special, so this was SC3’s way to pay her back just a little bit.

Have a ripper week everyone,

Jarrod

Art News

We are wrapping up some assessment projects at the moment, and have all been very impressed with the amazing work that has been produced by our clever artists! Using the art of Dean Russo as inspiration, SC2 and 3 students have been creating some very detailed mixed media Pet Portraits, which have required them to utilise the Art Elements of line, shape and colour through experimental layering of many different media and techniques. This has included using paint markers to draw and stencil, stamps for printing, painting in both acrylic and watercolour, outlining with gel pens and pastels and much more! Check out the amazing results below!

Meanwhile, SC1 have been concentrating on the Art Element of space, as they explored the concept of background and foreground composition through their recent bushfire artworks. We also worked on blending acrylic paint using analogous colours as we created our backgrounds for these artworks. Upon completion of their bushfire scene, students have begun to use their weaving skills to create a mixed-media artwork depicting a firefighter merged with the fire painting. I photocopied their original artworks to weave with, as I couldn’t stand to cut up the beautiful paintings! The weaving of two artworks is a tricky concept which has added a layer of complexity to the students’ existing weaving skills from last term. We are working in small focus groups to achieve this and I am so proud of the stunning results so far!

Next week, we will be looking at beginning our sewing unit to finish off the Art year. This will involve making indigenous basket weavings with SC3 and Christmas wall hangings with SC1 and 2. I would dearly love some helpers for the SC1 class to help with threading needles etc, so if anyone is available and willing on Wednesday afternoons please let me know! Many thanks :)
