Remembrance Day
We would like to congratulate and say well done to our entire school for the way they participated at last Friday’s Remembrance Day events. Thankfully the inclement weather held off for the outside part of our ceremony at the Gallipoli oak! The team running things did a terrific job, it’s nice to see our grade 6 students having opportunities to participate & lead school events.
Our school captains also did a wonderful job of representing the school at the local Remembrance Day service at RSL park, laying a wreath on behalf of the school community.
The enthusiasm from our school community in buying and wearing the Remembrance poppies also demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting our armed services community and reflecting on the contributions servicemen & women have made to the country we live in today. The RSL were delighted with the support received, and extend their thanks to our school community.
Many thanks to you all for your support.
Managing Illness in Schools - Minimum Periods of Exclusion Table
The Department of Education provides guidelines around managing student illnesses in schools. We understand that it can be challenging for families when any members of the household are unwell and we really appreciate your support in keeping students at home until they are well enough to return to school.
We also do understand that illness can come on suddenly at times. Should the onset of any symptoms occur during the school day, parents will immediately be contacted to collect their child/ren.
Please note that some illnesses have a minimum period of exclusion from school.
The Minimum Period of Exclusion from Primary Schools and Children’s Services for Infectious Disease Cases and Contacts outlines these conditions. Please read carefully, as this includes conditions such as gastro and head lice.
It is also important to contact the school, so we can send an alert to impacted classes and families can be aware to monitor for symptoms and help reduce transmission.
We have recently had a report of gastroenteritis in our school. A key message in this table is around Diarrhoeal Illness (often involving gastroenteritis) whereby students must not attend school until there has been no vomiting or loose bowel motion for a period of 24 hours. For most cases, this means students will be away from school a minimum of two days. Please monitor students closely and keep home if unwell or displaying any symptoms of any illness.
Students who have a positive COVID result are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.
Through working together and ensuring students who are ill do not attend school, we can hopefully reduce the spread of such illnesses and ensure our students, staff and school community are kept safe.
We thank everyone for your cooperation and understanding.
Student Dress Code
A reminder that we expect all of our students to be in full school uniform at all times while at school.
Please ensure any items purchased for school are logo free and in line with our uniform guidelines, which can be found here: https://buninyongps.vic.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/BPS-Uniform-Guidelines-2022.pdf
Some of the recommendations are based on the requirement for students to be able to participate in all educational and school activities safely, with as much risk removed as possible. This includes:
- No jewellery unless for medical, cultural or religious reasons and these can be discussed with school staff. Small, plain studs or sleepers can be worn if your child’s ears are pierced.
- Hair should be kept tidy and tied back. This prevents entanglement and also reduces the risk of head lice transmission.
We are very proud of our school and the reputation we have earned for excellence in education. The wearing of school uniform is one way we actively demonstrate our pride and our belonging.
Over the next couple of weeks we are having a daily focus on uniform. This includes:
- hair tied back if long enough
- socks (plain black or white; no logos)
- shorts (plain black school shorts with no logos; no sports shorts)
- black shoes or runners
- hats (school hats that are named)
Your help in ensuring that all students are in the correct uniform is appreciated.
PRIMARY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE -
EVERY DAY COUNTS & EVERY MINUTE MATTERS
At Buninyong, our day of learning starts promptly at 9am each day. The first bell goes at 8.55am and by 9am, students should be settled in their classrooms, ready for learning.
Arriving even a few minutes late can result in an unsettled start to the day for that student and disrupt the rest of the class. As the tables show, a few minutes each day can also add up to be quite a significant period of missed learning over a week, a term, a year and their school life!
We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child/ren are at school on time each day, ready to learn.
School Bus Travel for 2023
Families who are eligible and wish to use one of the three country bus services next year are required to complete and return a new application form for their child/ren and return it to the office by Friday 16 December.
Likewise, if your child/ren attend our Scotsburn campus and would like to use our between campus service, a new application form is also required.
If your child/ren are already bus travellers, we will be sending a form home with the
eldest child in the family in the next week. For new travellers, please call into the office
to collect an application form.
Please note: All current bus rolls will be cleared at the end of Term 4 and only children for
which we have new application forms will be permitted to travel in 2023.
Thank you for your help.
