Week 2 Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

Back in August 2020,  Fr David Cartwright  St Fidelis’ Parish Priest for 14 years, was asked by the Archbishop  to begin the Brighton Mission. Consequently he had to leave St Fidelis as our Parish Priest.

At the time of his departure we had very strict COVID restrictions and we were unable to farewell Fr David Cartwirght as a school and Parish Community.

Fr Carwrtight was instrumental with the selling of Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour situated on  Coonan's Hill (more commonly known as St Fidelis Senior School) to build what is now our School Hall, and Senior Learning Building in Hawthorn street. Fr David established many parish groups and was always very supportive of the school staff, parents and students.

Below is an invitation to all St Fidelis School families to join Fr David Cartwright as he celebrates Mass once again for our parish and to join in a small luncheon to thank him for his work at St Fidelis during his ministry of fourteen years.  If you would like to attend, please ensure you contact the parish or a member of the social committee.

Vision, Mission and Core Values

‘A school vision statement describes a school’s shared values and high-level aspirations for ongoing school improvement. It is a statement about student learning and achievement based on school-identified priorities” (Dept. of Ed Aug 2020)

Last term, the staff gathered together for a School Closure Day to reflect on feedback received  by members of our community (parents, staff and students). This feedback assisted us  to identify the core beliefs, values and purpose of St Fidelis moving forward.

After an extremely intense day I am pleased to present to the community the final Vision, Mission and Core Values. We believe that these statements have captured the voices and true essence of the values and aspirations reflected by the school community for our school.

Over the next five weeks, classroom teachers will unpack the Vision and Core Values with the students, culminating in a school launch of the Vision and Core Values as seen by the students.

The School Advisory Board will also have an opportunity to unpack the statements at our next School Advisory Board Meeting.

EXCITING NEWS! - INTERRELATE POSTER COMPETITION WINNERS

For the past two years, St Fidelis students have  participated in the INTERRELATE POSTER COMPETITION. This year's theme was “Say yes to respectful relationships”. This year the theme focused on our relationships with ourselves and how that translates to our relationship with others.

The purpose of this competition is to provide a conversation starter and facilitate discussion that fosters respectful and positive relationships. We enter this competition as it links to our involvement in National Bullying Day of Action and our Resilience Project. We believe in teaching the students to identify healthy vs unhealthy behaviors from a  young age, as this can empower them to recognise times when they may need support as they grow in adulthood.

I am excited to announce that five of St Fidelis students are finalists in this year's competition. On Friday at 11:30am, we will gather as a school community to support our peers by viewing the Virtual Awards online.

All parents are welcome to join us in the hall or you can watch the awards on the following link. Well done to all the students and I wish them all the best of luck.

COVID UPDATE - July Term 3 2022

Rapid Antigen Tests − Terms 3 and 4

The Victorian Government has determined the rapid antigen test (RAT) distribution strategy for Terms 3 and 4. Under the approach, schools will receive up to three deliveries of RATs each in Terms 3 and 4. Schools will be able to provide these RATs to parents / carers, staff or students on request, as the previous settings that required weekly or daily testing of students and staff have ceased. Each delivery will include one pack of RATs per student or staff member in mainstream schools.  We expect that schools will receive their first delivery of RATs by Friday 29 July 2022. More information on the distribution of RATs will be detailed in forthcoming communication.

A reminder of the updated approach to managing a confirmed case and household contacts of COVID-19 in schools:

Where a student or staff member is identified as a positive case, the following steps should be taken:

1. Parents/carers should inform the school by phone or written notification.

2. Students who report a positive result must isolate themselves for seven days and not attend school during that period.

3. Where a student is a household contact of a positive case (that is, they have spent more than four hours with someone who has COVID-19 inside a house, accommodation, or care facility) they must inform the school. Household and household-like contacts are no longer required to quarantine as long as they take additional safety measures in the 7 days that would have been their quarantine period. Household contacts are required to inform the school that they are attending during the 7 day period. Household contacts must undertake rapid antigen testing 5 times within the 7-day period. Household contacts need to wear a face mask at school when indoors during the 7-day period if they are aged 8 years or above, unless they have a valid exemption.

4. Principals will notify staff and the school community through a daily email (where applicable) when a student or staff member has (or multiple students or staff members) have returned a positive COVID-19 test result and had attended the school.

5. Staff or students need to refrain from returning to school if they remain symptomatic, unless it is known that their symptoms are ongoing, or caused by an underlying health condition or medication.

6. In the event of multiple positive cases at a school, the Department of Health (DH) will work with the relevant regional office to determine the most appropriate response and any additional actions that should be taken.

Thank you for your support to keep our school open and safe.

Have a lovely week,

Manuela
